I took my 2 boys on their first camping trip with the lightning. We went about 90 miles away with a 165 lbs rooftop tent and rhino rack cross bars. It felt incredible solid the entire time and it didn't appear to change the range too much. Overall, it was a great experience, the truck performed incredible well, and we had a great time.

Side note: Highway driving has been a little bit of a surprise for me in regard to range. Around town I get around 320 miles of charge and driving on the highway at 75mpg, that drops closer to 240. Typically, that is no issue whatsoever but will definitely make me think twice on longer road trips.

This is great! I bought my Lightning to use as a camper as well as a work truck and did something somewhat similar (link). Truck has been fantastic, but I have seen the same thing as you with regards to range - speed matters a lot. I'm trying to train myself that its ok to not drive 75 even in a 70mph zone, but old habits die hard.

One of the nice things is it doesnt seem to really have any "phantom drain" when parked if you aren't running anything. Also really nice to have those outlets for camping if you want to really glam it up and hook up an espresso machine or rope lights or something :) and of course, its so nice and quiet when you pull into a campsite late at night.

Enjoy making all those memories together!

Couldn't agree more on all accounts. Just pulled up your camper/camp setup on your truck. That is really awesome.

Mind sharing your bed rails and tent setup? Just took mine camping and it was a blast.
Hi There. So I went with with Retrax Pro XR bedcover so that it would slide under the crossbars and then went with Rhino Rack 71" Aero Crossbars (https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Rhino-Rack/RRVA180B-RRRLT600.html) that are compatible with the bedcover.

One thing they won't tell you is that the handle on the bedcover doesn't quite fit under the rails (really annoying finding out after the fact since I got the setup due to being "compatible"). So you need to add this spacer... https://www.etrailer.com/p-RRQMVA15...Lightning#exp-productdetails=.all-description ...which makes the crossbars just a hair taller and then everything works seamless.

The tent is this one from OVS... 18039926 OVS Nomadic 3 Extended Roof Top Tent in Artic White It works great and is plenty of room for me and my two sons. It is quite heavy (165 lbs) so it's not the easiest to take on and off but that's really the only downside thus far. Super quick and easy to deploy and pack up once it's on the truck and really has not had much of an effect on range. I imagine the hardshell versions are even better in regard to range. Hope this helps.

Happy Camping!
