Late reservations

I reserved in Sept. Realistically, when am I supposed to get called to order? I know Dec is not going to happen since they will call earlier in the year reservation clients. Dec of 2022 to order?

I think you’ll be able to order as soon as the order books open. The isn’t Tesla so the dealer will start chasing their sales leads (reservation holders) right away.

Reservation number will be one factor that determines when your truck gets built. With 160,000+ reservations to date I’d expect a truck sometime in 2023.

Ford has stated they will open up the order book in waves, allowing earlier reservations to get first crack (it is by timestamps not reservation number). There have been over 150,000 reservations by early September. That means September reservations may be late 2023 orders but 2024 is more likely, depending on the conversion rate for reservations to orders.

@ChasingCoral and @Easycamper thanks for the response. Wow, so realistically I am two years away from ordering in late 2023?

You never know. And to be honest people will just not order because of the wait and once the confirmed pricing comes out people will not purchase because of the price. I work as a sales manager at a dealership and the prices are high to me. You get a lot for it but still doesn't make the price any more easy to swallow.

The $40k starting price doesn’t seem too high to me, even when you add the 360 camera for $2k the total is $42k. The only other feature I want are running boards. So maybe $43k total. Doesn’t seem too bad. I just don’t know if I can wait two years as my current car probably won’t last until then!
Well as I don't ever need 4x4 and get employee pricing I have had an xlt truck for the last 4 years and a platinum and lariat before it. The trucks have gone up about 10k since I started here. To get another xlt I'm looking at 60k.

Everything I want is in the pro model, other than the bigger battery, but I only want that for the torque. I’m good with the price, throw in some tax incentives, it’s a great deal I think. But, I’m buying it to be a pick up, not a Cadillac
Tax credit has 15k left not including those taking delivery if the Mach e's who may get them. In addition depending on where you live you would need to file the tax incentive as a write off which doesn't help unless you can write off more than the standard.

But again the pro is definitely a great option. If you don't need to take trips further than 200-250 miles if we are just talking range. My current f-150 extended tank gets me 550 miles per tank. So I may just be spoiled.

Torque should be the same.

That’s cool, not really looking for top end speed, just fun take offs

Sorry to rain on your parade but I have been keeping track and found this on the Ford Lightning EV:

"Ford intends to produce only about 15,000 units in 2022, before ramping up to 55,000 in 2023 and 80,000 in 2024."

Along with these numbers on reservations.

20,000 in 12 hours (May 20)
44,500 in 48 hours (May 21)
70,000 in about 8 days (May 27)
100,000 in about three weeks (June 9)
120,000 in over two months (July 28)
130,000 in over three months (September 2)

So 2024 is possible but not before.

The production rumor of "only" 15,000 units in 2022 was something addressed by Ford's Darren Palmer in an interview on Inside EV's from September 17th here at the 4:52 timestamp:

Mr. Palmer indicated that the 15,000 number was inaccurate, and further, is expecting production volume to be 80-90k in 2023 with their recent expansion investments. I will also say it is worth listening to the rest of his interview as well. Enjoy!

All true but I think @roc-noc’s numbers will be close. My inside source said maybe 18,000 in 2022. Remember that 2022 production won’t start until the spring so it will be a a single, slowly accelerating assembly line and parts orders that are already in place. I doubt they could even 30,000 units in 2022. Yes, 2023 should be more like 80,000 as they will have a second line in place. Factoring in an 80% conversion rate (just a guess), I still stand by my estimate that s a September reservation will be a late 2023 or early 2024 build.

For a bit of comparison, here are the 2021 Mach E production numbers so far:
Product Font Pattern Parallel Circle

Remembering that Lightning production is likely to start 5-6 months later than the Mach E did, the Mach E production totals through May were under 28,000 units.
