Combination of a lot of things.

1) doing some some personal finance rebudgeting

2) Wife doesn’t like it that much now that it’s here, which means I would exclusively be driving it, and she wouldn’t want to trade ID4 with me when I drive into NYC or somewhere else.

3) same wife also getting emotional about selling our Volt

none of these factors by itself would be a reason to sell, but taken in concert, I figure I should at least see what’s out there

I have a very successful, very wealthy associate that once shared the secret of his rags-to-riches story. He told me "all humans are greedy". Knowing that, accepting that and learning how to use and manipulate that flaw in our makeup enabled him to become a very rich man.

I have always remembered that conversation. Greed is distasteful, and most of us shrink from those who overtly display it. Accordingly, I have tried a lot harder to not let mine manifest; with mixed results.

Anyway, dealers, flippers and scalpers abound in our little community-in-waiting, and I too am repulsed by it. I seem to be in the minority in that I pretty much accept Ford's price hike. It is costing more to build these, all cars in fact. I will pay it. What I will never do, is line a greedy dealer or scalper's pocket. I'll walk to town first.

Whether it is hand sanitizer or Broncos, these things always tip away from the scalpers favor. Invariably there are some, sometimes a lot that get caught on the wrong side of that tip, and take a bath in their "investment".

I am trying to be a better person, but I have work to on that front; because I am going to have a difficult time not grinning when it happens to this market... :devilish:

No bath required, don’t need to sell. Just exploring.

Thanks for sharing your journey. You sound like a good person.

Have a great weekend!

Honestly he’s not asking that much more than what FORD has priced his exact truck to for the 2023 models. I’m sure he has costs associated with making the purchase and it would make 0 sense for him to sell the truck for less than what the new pricing is. Call him a scalper if you like but just the same as anything else that’s increased in value over the last year, his truck is worth more than he gave for it. I don’t blame him at all for pricing it the way he did.
Just because he has owned it for less than a year doesn’t mean he doesn’t reserve the right to sell it for what market value is.

Thanks Fry. That's what I thought too. The price reflects what I'd be willing to part with it for, otherwise, I am a happy camper.

However, I am learning from this forum that I am some sort of supervillain from a Marvel movie. 🤷‍♂️

Have a great weekend!

There are thousands of us patiently waiting our turn to order one and what do I see? You running an apparent scalping scheme. Shame on you. Sell it for what you have in it! Bk
Shame on him for what? Is he doing something dishonest? Looks like 100% transparency to me. We all know what he paid, and I'm just wondering what he can get. Based on my local demand I wouldn't sell it for less than $105K.

@wdklein1, would you take $150,000 over MSRP? $1,000,000. If not, you're rich or place too much value on material things. If so, the old joke if the lady is hooker applies and we're just haggling over the price.

And if @michaelwma is is shamed, then I am absolutely shameless. I will take my bids on my Lariat right now,* starting at $111,672,37, the $17.5k difference from what I thought I was going to pay. Ordered 9/8/2022.

*Seller retains right to reject any offer.

It is shame that you have associate's that "manipulate" peoples flaws to get rich, which implies some shady dealing. Now that seems dishonest.

Is it "scalping?" Really? Has anyone been denied a truck or Bruce Springsteen tickets? I guess he should find the next order number and sell it to that person for cost to make sure no one jumps in line. And I agree!

@michaelwma, please sell it to me cost. I will fly to NJ tomorrow and give you cash.

We can meet at the Airport, if you owe anything on it, I will pay that off, get a title release, and give the rest to you in cash. I'll even give you a ride home from the bank.

Wow. What an interesting discussion.

Tl:dr : the truck is off the market.

I put my 2018 Chevy volt (107k miles) and this truck on the market at the same time and was just going to sell whatever got a better comparable deal. I got an offer for 90 the truck and 16.5 on the Volt. So, I sold the Volt. I thought testing the market on both simultaneously was a pretty rational, sensible, and responsible thing to do. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I will say I have found it interesting that people on this board scrolling the classified section tell the seller what to sell things for. It truly has been an interesting lesson in both human psychology and capitalism. And, I have worked in financial services my entire life.

For what it’s worth, I love my truck and feel great about my purchase. In fact, you all (the market) even confirmed for me! So thank you all, even the trolls and keyboard warriors 🙏.

Just ordered a bunch of accessories and moving into my new, beautiful, blue beast. Peace and see you around the board.

Thank you! I really appreciate you chiming in. I felt I was trying to be transparent as well, and thought a board just for Lightning owners and prospective owners would have some context for a reasonable markup associated (please see other listings, inclining @Busted comment) with his vehicle versus a regular Facebook page — but I was wrong.

Now that is all said and done, I probably would’ve taken 95 with the same comparable Volt deal, but alas, it’s all over now.

Salesman told me yesterday their 2022 Lariat ER mannequin could go to auction today for 120K. And that would of course get retail markup when offered back to consumers.
Capitalism in action, my friends, the true market value isn't what Ford is selling the trucks for. This is simply "price discovery" going on, just like any other market.
I'm sure the first editions of any of the full size EV trucks are going to price 100K or better. Silverado we know is the case, very good bet the "quad motor, long range, four wheel steering, etc" cybertruck will be that too.

I don’t have mine yet so I went to a dealer to check it out in person. I was told that they would LOVE to buy mine and would guarantee at least $20K over MSRP. That would be $100K and that was only the initial offer.
It sounds like this is the fair market value for this vehicle. Why would anyone sell it for anything less?

No need for thanks. Just to show how shameless I really am...

I didn't mention that I have a Cybertruck and two Silverados reserved. All were reserved with the intent of keeping only one, intending to cancel or flip the rest.

But like I said, depending on delivery date, I think I will be doing more cancelling than flipping as I expect the irrational exuberance for EVs to evaporate with MY 2025 as quickly as the tech bubble in 2000 and tulips in 1636, leaving a glut of EV's for sale cheap before the auto market returns to normal.
