Kia has announced that they will build an electric pickup truck by 2027. It was part of their investors day announcement.

During Kia’s investor day held yesterday, the South Korean carmaker also announced something that could be more interesting than the EV9, if happens, an electric pickup truck.

Kia’s president Mr. Ho-sung Song announced plans to produce specialized electric vehicles in four major markets to expand electric vehicle volume.

Apart from the EV9, that will be built ad Hwaseong plant, a mid-size electric vehicle models will be introduced in China from next year while an entry and mid-size electric vehicle models will be produced in India from 2025.

And then, they also announced two pickups, that will use an electric vehicle-only platform and an internal combustion engine-based architecture, respectively. It is expected that the former will be developed for the North American market and the latter will be developed for the emerging market and use a market-tailored strategy.

Building pickups isn’t the same as building cars. I anticipate something more like the Hyundai Santa Cruz than an F-150.

Even the Telleride isn't a true SUV, minivan with a different body frame.

Nice, the more the merrier. Any of these will suit my needs nicely. This week I'm renting a Santa Fe and I really like how the driver aids keep me on the road with minimal input. Makes the 3 hour boring ride to and from the airport much easier.
