All electric now along with my Tesla Model S. Lot to learn about the Lightning though!

A few initial thoughts - many options should have been default, complete towing set up I'm still learning, not happy the 'phone as a key' entry still not working as software has not been installed, biggest good suprise was it has a power tailgate, Ford never made it very clear that one press initiates Ford 'voice commands' but holding button initiates Apple Car Play commands, charging can only be at 100% it needs software upgrade so you can choose percentage as you can on Tesla i.e 80%, pressing 'suround' option dramatically improves quality of sound. If you are not tech savvy you will miss out on quite a lot this vehicle offers. Vehicle needs a Lightning badge/logo on rear tailgate to match the side ones (my dealership are ordering one for me).

So much more to find out, but overall thrilled with this remarkable piece of engineering.

I do not have mine yet but I have read multiple posts indicating that you can set a default charge limit per charging location. This means at home, you can have it set to 80% and that will save for moving forward, but if you travel to a public station, you can set a 1 time limit, though I thought the default was 90% and you could do a 1 time adjustment up or down from there.

Thank you fore your reply. The default is 100% so if you change it to anything else you have to do it everytime you charge again, unlike the Tesla which can save and remember the setting. I'm sure it will be on a software update soon. Charging to 80% is economical and quick, but from 80 to 100% is not necessary for most, and takes a long time becoming expensive.

I set up my home charger in the Ford Pass App and set it to 80%. I had trouble doing that on the screen in the truck but it now goes to 80% each time I plug in at home.

Congratulations @Jackovspades! How do you find the Lightning is to drive compared to your Tesla? Also, what kind of charging setup do you have for both cars?

I had a F150 Limited before the Lightning so in some ways the driving is similar. The Tesla Model S is much quicker being lighter. Ford have taken many Tesla features and improved on some. There are still multiple issues I'm having with the Lightning all of which are interface/software related. They could have done a better job on the manual. Owners who are not tech savvy will not get the best out of this vehicle. Hopefully someone will write a 'F150 For Dummies' book soon. The charging set up and the FordPass is a continuous issue for me, and I'm waiting for the Dealership to call back. Overall it is a fantastic vehicle and I'm sure Ford are aware of some of the issues. Tesla have had years of feedback to sort out their issues whereas Ford have only had a few months. I have identical 40 amp chargers inside for both vehicles.

How are you liking build quality here compared to what Tesla offered?

They are both great vehicles. You get more bang for your buck with the F150 Lightning Platinum than the Tesla Model S. Ford have done a much better job with the display/interface than Tesla, even though there are items that definitely need a software update. The big plus I found was for every option Ford has, they give a good explanation of what changing the option setting does. Whereas Tesla does not, it's trial and error. In Canada dealers are now selling the Lightning adding a 25% surcharge AND you have to sign a two year lease to prevent you reselling it even if you paid cash in full upfront. Luckily my dealership are decent and honest guys, and Ford can be proud of them.

@Jackovspades , congrats on your purchase.

I picked mine up a few days ago (Vancouver) and had similar questions about charging.

The official answer from ford is 90% charge for everyday use.

What charge level is recommended for daily driving?
Ford recommends that you charge to 90% for everyday driving and charge to 100% when you need the full range for a trip. Charging to 90% helps prolong the life of your battery.

.

The setting to set the charging max is awkward to find but you'll find it via the ford pass charge settings.
