I have about 5k miles on mine and couldn’t be happier with my first EV. Sure, there are glitchy things with the software and OTAs could be smoother / faster, but overall the truck does all the truck things and somehow floats down the highway like a Cadillac (by itself at times) and, if you so desire, blows everyone’s doors off from a traffic light.
I also had a recent power outage for about 24 hours after a tree fell in the neighborhood. After running a few extension cords from the bed (haven’t messed with intelligent backup power yet) I had neighbors texting me asking how I got my power back on. Barely put a dent in the battery running the fridge, chest freezer, various kitchen appliances, computers, TVs and all the lamps you could want.
I’ve been waiting for someone on this forum to point out that the overwhelming majority of owners are most likely happy with their trucks (I suspect this survey will show that). I realize these kinds of forums tend to attract the squeaky wheels, but some of the “complaints” I’ve read here are pretty ridiculous in my opinion. A few examples:
1) The exact percentage of SOC is not displayed. Was the exact percentage of fuel displayed in your ICE F-150? And you can just toggle to the calm screen to see the % if the battery “gauge” on the normal dash screen is insufficient. Although that may require you to use your right thumb to press a button or two.
2) The Guess-O-Meter isn’t accurate. No, it isn’t. It’s an approximation based on a bunch of stuff. No big deal. Don’t fixate on your range and you’ll be a much happier EV owner. Just drive the truck and generally charge it when you need to. You can put 100-150 miles of range on it overnight at home with the mobile charger on 240, so unless you’re driving more than that each day, don’t worry about it. If you are, install a charge station pro.
If you’re driving enough daily miles that you need to calculate exact range using exact SOC, you may wanna stick with an ICE. These trucks don’t work for all applications. I live about 17 miles from work round trip, occasionally (not as often as I’d like) tow a bass boat about 70 miles round trip, and drive 6 hours one way to the beach a couple times a year. The truck is perfect for my application.
3) You have to touch the touch screen a few times to adjust the sliders on the heated/cooled seats and the cabin heat/air. Seriously? Vehicle tech has come a long way for this to be a complaint. And Ford already “fixed” this “problem” with an update.
These are just a few examples of what I think are pretty minor complaints. Not trying to ruffle any feathers, just trying to offer a little perspective.
Obviously, some people have experienced significant issues / inconveniences / irritations with their vehicles, and I’m sure I’d be mad about those too. But I hope most of you are enjoying the hell out of this really cool vehicle like I am. This is my third, and favorite by far, F-150 and I never thought I’d be an EV guy.
For those of you still waiting on your Lightning, stay excited!!! It’s worth the wait.
