So I drove a bit on country roads last night, and discovered that the 'auto lights' setting would turn on high beams, and turn them off if it noticed headlights in the distance!

Not sure this is novel, but definitely something I've never seen before.

That's great! This is a feature on my wife's X7 and I love it so I'm glad to know I'll be getting it on here as well.

yea a lot of the newer cars do that now. The Honda CRV I drove in 2019 that was a '18 did that.

My 2017 Alfa turns on the side lights when you turn the wheel enough to illuminate the direction you are turning in.

Yes, I love the auto-dimming high beams on my Mustang Mach E.

Yeah just got to have my first decent night drive last night and discovered that feature as well. Had also just discovered it the week prior on my wife's '18 Toyota Sienna van when driving during our vacation. Was a nice surprise and a feature I will have to get used to.

One of my favorite features on my old 2014 Accord was the right turn camera. When you would put your right turn signal on, the camera would come on. It was great. Wish more cars/trucks did this. Prevents your eyes from leaving the front view for too long

Auto high beams have been around for a long time. They just never work really well. Out on 2 lane roads - meeting other cars head on, they do OK. Major interstates where the lanes are split oncoming traffic may be too far away, but they still get your brights, but they don't dim automatically. Rarely work well in town - street lights and many other things interfere. Maybe they've been updated and will do well.

I can’t speak for other vehicles; but none of that was a problem in my ‘18 lariat. The feature worked amazingly well. My brights were often off before the oncoming vehicles were and back on as soon as we were no longer head to head. Same for street lights, as soon as enough outside light was sensed it would go back to regular beams.

We have both a 2022 Lightning and a 2017 Tesla Model S. The Ford automatic headlights are much better at switching back and forth, seamlessly in comparison to the Tesla. Neither vehicle has lights that reach very far compared to the projector lights on my old 2013 F150.
