I had a terrible experience with Sun-run. Converted my reservation into an order in January. Month or so after I got a call from some guy at Sun run asking about installation of the charger, telling me about intelligent back-up etc.... I said great let’s move forward, he said he would get back to me. Never heard from again. Short version, I reached out to Sun Run via phone/ email 10 times after that. No one ever returned my calls/emails. Took delivery in July, still no responses to this day.

That being said, My question is this…
Instead of taking the path with the full intelligent back-up system. Wouldn’t it be possible to have an electrician install a generator-type plug connected to the panel that works the same way a mobile generator system would? i.e flip a manual switch to cut the main connection and run an extension cord from the 240v truck outlet to the generator plug inlet. Ideally you could isolate a few breakers instead of the entire panel. I have heard of sun run charging 8-12k for the system. Wouldn’t this be considerably cheaper?

What do you know or what am I missing?

Before anyone comments, yes I realize power would need to be disconnected from main lines so the lineman aren’t in danger.
Also yes, this solution would require me to manually plug the truck and flip the lever vs it being automatic with the full intelligent system. Still better than lighting candles.

It’s definitely possible. People have done it. You would need an interlock between the generator breaker and your main breaker. there is an issue with the bonded neutral in the main panel and bonded neutral in the Lightning that causes problems. The trucks GFCI will trip. A neutral switching transfer switch can fix that. There are a few YouTube videos on that.

Yes, you can do use a generator plug but it requires a bonded neutral. There are other threads discussing this topic:
