Has anyone actually gotten this done and up and running with the Lightning + Delta/SunRun intelligent backup system (inverter) WITHOUT SunRun (ie a local electrician).

Working with electricians and have been able to get exactly 1 person from Ford or SunRun who knows anything about the system.

Where are you located? Any decently experienced solar designer/installer should be able to help you with this. Your typical electricien is not going to be doing much with big DC inverters like that, it is more of a solar specialty.

Here's the spec sheet. You'd be getting an E4_BDI

Sorry…should have been more specific.

My electricians have installed all the equipment from SunRun/Delta (4kw) and are in the process of wiring the sub panel. The out of box instructions were insufficient, and after 7 hours on the phone with SunRun I was able to get in touch with the head of training for EV vehicles for SunRun. He provided technical training documents and videos and wiring instructions for everything. But he made a disturbing comment at the end of the call that “Ford requires a local inspector to sign off on the installation and contact Ford Customer Care to enable the backup system through the FordPass app.” I asked multiple times and multiple ways to confirm he meant what he said. He also had no idea who to contact at Ford.

I had never heard of this, and as I will likely lose power Wednesday from Hurricane Ian, am concerned that I’m not going to be able to jump through any bureaucratic hoops to get this done between now and Wednesday.

I have read and reviewed a bunch of theoretical talk about the is system, but haven’t actually heard from anyone on this message board who actually has the system up and running, let alone through a 3rd party installer.

Ok, that is sure new information. Providing you survive the hurricane, let us know what you find out!

Oh, and forgive my morbid sense of humor. :p

Please see my last addition to the thread SunRun Home Integration System . The 4kW integrated inverter can be purchased by you and installed by your electrician but Sunrun advises that this inverter is too small if you want to integrate solar or an additional home backup battery.
4kw is definitely too small for a whole-home backup. A separate set of backed up critical circuits would need to be built to use this inverter properly.
