Hi, I'm Adam and I'm going to the Lightning reveal next week. I'll be posting during the reveal and providing electrifying truck information on demand. I'd love to know what questions you have for Ford and what you want me to ask or find out.

Usually I post on Maverick and Bronco forums, but I'm excited to see the Lightning in the metal next week.

Update: I'll be interviewing Linda Zhang, the F-150 Chief Nameplate Engineer, and leader behind bringing the F-150 Lighting to market. Any specific questions for her would be great!

That's really cool you get to go @atonge40! If you can get some shots underneath of the Lightning that'd be great. Both of the suspension and of the skid plate/protection underneath.

There are also a few clips on YouTube that show video of the undercarriage while the truck is on a lift.. Search for "F150 Lightning SEMA garage" in YouTube.

Take photos of as many payload stickers as possible. If you snag time with an engineer, ask them if the max tow gives you faster 240 volt and DC fast charging speeds.

At this point there aren't a lot of mysteries about the product aside other than real-world charging speeds and range @ 70 mph.
I can answer one of those questions for you. Max tow will have no affect on L2 charging. L2 creates a tiny fraction of the heat that DCFC does. L2 does not create enough heat to overcome the cooling system of any currently produced EV (even air cooled ones).

Like you, however, I am very interested in the affect the extra cooling will have on DCFC. If current is throttled based on actual battery core temperatures (rather than a program formula), it is hard to imagine not getting better input.

Can you ask if they have any plans to introduce a 6.5' bed?

Also, for places (such as WA state) that have EV incentives, can you also ask about future pricing? The Lariat ER seems to be a pretty popular configuration, but with the max tow package included it gets awfully close to surpassing the $80k max that WA state allows for new vehicles to get the incentive. So it's in Ford's interest to keep prices below that price point, but as we all know, prices on everything are going up.

Thanks a ton for offering. I have called the dealer and corporate for an answer to this question but nothing yet.
Does the Max Trailer Tow Package help cool the batteries and motor when not towing or does the feature only work for towing purposes?

This is akin to putting a larger transmission cooler on an ICE. The key here is that it is hardware. That means the extra capacity is always available (just like a larger transmission cooler).

I don't think you have the data to answer the level 2 question. The only data point we have is the discrepancy in the AC charging times between Platinum and Lariat ER and that would suggest that there is a difference with Max Tow.

It is also a software issue. We don't know if the charging algorithm is different with Max Tow on board.

the skid plate/protection underneath
Not quite the same as seeing it up on a lift, but some nice still shots of the underbelly from the front and the rear from a Lariat Lightning at the Chicago Auto Show.

I added it to the original post, but I'll be interviewing Linda Zhang on Tuesday. I'd love to have a bunch of questions for her from those who are ordered and are excited about the F-150 Lightning.
• a ballpark timeline between build week and customer delivery?

• are all dealerships receiving from HQ a single, standardized form of right-of-first-refusal agreement, or are each dealership left to cook up their own version?

• does HQ plan to take any additional steps to avoid dealership markups over-above the build sheet prices provided by Ford in the ordering process?

Does the Lightning have a heat pump? Can we use it for towing a gooseneck trailer?
No heat pump; think this is well known. On top of that, I've heard horror stories of cars heat pumps in legit cold climates where many of these will be used. Yes, I know much more efficient and would extend range, but I sure as hell don't want to be cold when it is below 0 F.

I had a series of questions to ask at the DC Auto Show you can find at
The next post after that has the answers I got. Many questions went unanswered, some answers may have been incomplete or incorrect (such as the Max Tow Package). Please check out that list for tomorrow.
