I drove past Harrison Ford in Mankato, MN today and saw this White Lightning in the lot. Took it for a test drive and didn't want to give it back!!! It was a Pro with a couple of extras like 360-degree camera. After watching all the videos and reading everyone's posts, I finally got to experience it for real. I should have NEVER taken the test drive. I should have waited til I could order one for myself. The salesman said they just got it on Saturday and have it for 6 months. They have 43 or so reservations but only got 2 trucks this first round.
Do you think I would look weird if I stopped by a few more times this year?

I hear you, man. I was offered an abandoned customer order Lariat ER w/ Max Tow being built this month. So, basically offered the ability to skip the multi-year wait IF I wanted to eat a disgusting amount of ADM. I thought what the hell, let's put a refundable deposit down in case Ford cracks down on ADM or the dealer get shamed out of doing ADM or whatever.

Stopped by Saturday to do the preliminary paperwork just to get the deposit down. They had a Lariat ER demo, and they let me take it on a 25 minute test drive. Bad. Bad. Decision.

Instantly my mind was just: "Want. Want. WANT" Was a stretch of highway where he encouraged me to hit the afterburners, and then a slow residential drive back with lots of regen. 2.7mi/kW for the 13 mile trip. Handles like it's on rails. Weight balanced front and back. AWD. Very familiar F150 form factor, but so different at the same time.

I can practically see myself sliding the briefcase of ADM pirate money across the stupid desk already.

Should've looked, but not touched.

I just got a text from my dealer salesperson that while he was out last week, their DEMO came in(while my own keeps getting pushed back, back, back into late July)... their's is a Lariat ER 511A in Blue. I stopped by and test drove with the thought of 'switching' my PRO order to this just-landed Lariat, at twice the price, but, yes, SOLD on the idea.
The problem: the dealership was not 'sold' on the idea. They were hesitant since they'd not gone thru this process and haven't even thought about it as an option. I had to school them. Well, when they finally said they would be selling the Demo with a $20k ADM over msrp, putting it at over $100k, I silently told myself that, regardless of the wait, I would continue WAITING on my PRO.
Then, out of the blue, the manager came over and said that even though they 'could' switch it to me, they would NOT since my order 'might' put them in a position to not having a model on the lot for over a '90 day period', which is prohibited by Ford, and they might get charged the $25k fee, if so.

so, in the end, as I knew I wouldn't pay the ridiculous ADM, their 'hesitation' let me off the hook - no matter how MUCH I would have liked to have driven that thing off the lot and surprised my wife!

So, as a lesson to many who right now may be willing to pay almost anything for a Lightning, even when your dealer HAS a Lightning, they may not sell it to you.

I also took a ride in a Lightning this weekend and want to convert my reservation ASAP! That being said I have a clarifying question when Page (in the post above says "They have 43 or so reservations but only got 2 trucks this first round.") What does that mean for my order? Do I need to find a dealer to process my order or will Ford send my order wherever I want? I'm totally confused...I understand the ADM string and have listed my reservation with a dealer who claims not to add any markup but how/why does any of this affect when I will get my truck? Also...I talked to Ford marketing and they said you regardless, you really need to watch out for the invite to order your truck over email because if you don't reply within a certain amount of time they will cancel your reservation! Finally I see reservations from August 2021 now being ordered, my reservation is from Nov 2021, are they updating the list based on those people who missed the email and/or can't actually buy this truck? Want, want want...yes! When when when?

the order 'line' is quite confusing for all of us original reservation holders, and those of us who have even been able to 'order' at some point. For me, the order was the 'first moment' the system went LIVE back on Jan 6th. No, I've not yet received my PRO, and while it was originally 'scheduled' to be built the week of MAY 30th, I've been pushed back not once, not twice, not three times, not FOUR times, but Five different times, with the last two times both being two weeks or three weeks MORE - now into LATE JULY, if then.
Yes, it's quite aggravating when the PRO model, the 'poster child' model from Ford, is NOT the priority model to build, but only the Lariat and Platinums. Aggravating - the summer will be over when, if ever, it arrives.

These times are different. No longer just browsing your local dealers stock inventory and finding a nice F150 you'd like, and take it home the same day. Nope.

Seriously, I don't think ANYONE knows how this really 'works', maybe not even FORD.

I tried to get the salesman to see where I was in line. My reservation was made on 9/21/2021, but he said he couldn't, that I'd just have to wait til October, when they get more allocated. He asked me what trim I was looking at. I'm looking at XLT or Lariat. He said because of the chip shortage he thought the lower trims would be built first (not as many chips in them). I don't know about dealer hopping. Not sure if that would work.

Best estimate is here:
You have at least 150,000 reservation holders ahead of you in the total line. Where you stand in your dealer's line is something only they can answer.

Ford has dealers.
So orders have to go through dealers. However, you first have to get an invitation.

I placed a reservation on May 19th, 2021 and have not gotten an invitation. MY THEORY is Ford does look at dealers when deciding who gets an invite. If my dealer has a list of 43 pre-order holders, they will not get 43 to pass through their hands. That dealer may only have an allocation 2 Lightnings for this round. So Ford will only send an invite to the top 2 people on the Dealer's list of pre-order holders. If I am #3 on the list at the dealership, I don't get an invitation.

Anyhow that is my theory, but it seems to make sense. Each dealer is being limited to how many Lightnings they are allotted. So Ford will not send invites to 10 people on a dealer's list.
