After watching Sandy Munro’s melting NEMA 14-50 plug video I decided to replace my $10 14-50 with a Hubble HBL9450A. My electrician changed it out this evening. We plugged the Ford Mobile Power Cord in and got an Amber light. I tried a friends FMPC with the same results. Everything on the outlet checked out but neither FMPC would work with the Hubble outlet. We reinstalled the $10 outlet and the FMPC worked as advertised. John, the electrician, checked both outlets and figured out that the metal receptacles for the blades on the plug are 1/4 inch deeper in the Hubble outlet than they are in the $10 outlet. He thinks that the plug is not making proper contact with the socket.
Has anyone used the Hubble outlet with the Ford Mobile Power Cord successfully?

Sorry, I haven't unpacked my Ford Mobile. But, if they're not making contact, where'd the amber light come from? If they are making contact, but not good enough contact, shouldn't you be able to see some evidence of arcing at the very ends of the brass blades on the 14-50P? I'd be interested in the blade depth of other 14-50 plugs, as in maybe trying another brand EVSE.
