How long do you plant on keeping your Lightning for? I think at least until the warranty runs out but I also plan to keep it for as long as I can. I've never been one to quickly move on to a new vehicle.

As long as possible. It’s costs me next to nothing to operate, as 90% of my charging is free. Really helps with that return on investment 🙂

At least 5 years until better batteries and more miles to empty.

Don’t know but it replaced a Taco I’d driven for 20 years.

Until CT or KIA EV9 becomes available to purchase and the trade in on my Lightning is acceptable. My big concern with Lightning is the spaghetti thermodynamics and potential of leaks with hoses and clamps. The 1st gen system with off the shelve parts is destined to improve when a bespoke Lightning goes into production. I would also like a heat pump, DCFC and a LFP battery. Elon/Tesla mentioned during investor day that CT will have LFP batteries and most of their current vehicle production also has this chemistry. Like it or not LFP batteries will be powering most mainstream electric vehicles going forward. Besides the added weight (lower energy density), it’s the right choice to scale production.
3 years for me as I'll likely want the T3 improvements. hoping to leverage Ford Options financing

8 years minimum.
I'm nearly 60 now and I have never done that. I think I made it to 7 once, 3.5 years is probably my average. I wish I would keep them longer.

My vehicle before my Lightning is a 2007 F150 XLT. I bought it new in 07 and I drove it everyday for all of those years. I even drove it today. George W. Bush was President when I bought that truck and its still serving me well. I'll be 59 in December.

You're going to be glad that you waited!
I’m 55. I have a 72 month loan (at 3.39%). I hope to retire in 7 years. I don’t want a car loan almost immediately after retiring. Especially since I have a 6 year old and a 12 year old. One will just be entering college. The other 5 years away from college. As long as there’s no issues with it I think I’ll be driving it for a long time.
I had my Prius for 10 years and that thing is now my wife's car until she gets an EV SUV. So, I am thinking I will have this 10 years unless I get in an accident. I take really, really good care of my vehicles and detail them every month.

It's a good question. I keep my vehicles a long time and have never had a lease. My daily was an 01 f250 7.3 diesel that is the best thing I have ever owned. I also drive a 76 nova and a 95 wrangler , so I obviously like the older stuff. I also do all of my own mechanical work as it has become increasingly hard to find qualified people who don't want to rob you blind. I jumped on the 22 lightning as I knew I was done being swindled by big oil, but was also blown away by the ass kicking performance. This is my first actual new vehicle and it still blows me away that it is electric, and that an EV is my mid life crisis car🤣. But I am so in love with it that I have only touched my other vehicles 3 times since owning the lightning. All three were to do things that I didn't want to beat up my new beauty with. With all that said, I don't feel it will be financially viable to keep it after my 8 year bumper to bumper runs out. I have seen under the covers, and it is scary as hell. I will try to keep my diesel until then because I sure as hell won't be able to afford another lightning by the time 8 years rolls by. Probably be $150k by then, and I already had a huge problem with the price tag of my Pro, but was able to justify it in cost savings from not driving my diesel. An EV actually makes sense to lease if it were to come available.

I plan to keep mine for 7-8 years which is my average for all my vehicles. It is a great truck...it will still be great in 7-8 years. Not looking to chase the next best thing again for a while.

The lifespan of a Lightning depends on various factors such as usage, maintenance, and upgrades. If you take good care of your Lightning and keep it well-maintained, it can last for several years. However, if you use it roughly or neglect its maintenance, it may not last as long.

It's important to remember that technology is constantly evolving, and newer models with better features and capabilities are always being released. So, even if your Lightning is still functioning well after a few years, you may want to upgrade to a newer model to take advantage of the latest technology.

Ultimately, the decision of how long to keep your Lightning depends on your personal preferences and needs. If you're happy with its performance and don't feel the need for any upgrades, you can keep using it for as long as it lasts. On the other hand, if you're looking for new features or better performance, you may want to upgrade sooner rather than later.
It all depends on how well you take care of it and whether or not you feel the need for an upgrade.
