I can get a SR for Sticker 72k - doesn't have the sunroof but I don't care about that. The dealer with the ER sticker is $82k has the towing package (I won't use) and the sunroof but wants.... wait for it.... $15k over sticker. I am going to buy one to take advantage of the $7500 tax credit and some accelerated depreciation. I am really leaning toward the SR model, I don't NEED the range, but like everyone would LIKE it.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I don't know if you have already tried negotiating with the dealer . . . where I found one, he wanted 10K over sticker for the same ER truck as you mentioned, but would sell the mannequin at sticker. While I got him down to 4K over sticker on the new one, I decided to buy the Mannequin for sticker price with 4,000 miles. They REALLY should be motivated to move these before 12/31 when the tax law changes, and you may want to use that as bargaining leverage. After 12/31 no more tax credit for a truck over 80K.

These are both mannequin units. Good point on the 80k issue. I really want the ER at $82k (600 miles on it) but they are telling me they can sell it for $18k over through a wholesaler who will ship it to California. Now I'm starting to think that's a smoke screen. 2 different dealers.

Unless he is full of BS, anyone willing to pay 18K over is probably not going to care as much about the tax credit.

I would just evaluate your daily commute. 200 miles is prob more than enough. I have an ER and leave it set to charge at 80% unless I really need the range for a trip.

You could take the SR at sticker, get the credit.

Drive it, enjoy it then wait for an ER at sticker if that's what you ultimately want.

Option 2 would be just give them a drop dead number and don't budge.

Lots of people on this forum seem very satisfied with the SR. Not sure if you live in a cold weather climate or not. I do, and for that reason alone, would not consider the SR and also wonder what the resale would be, esp as newer models coming online are going to all have longer ranges, not shorter ones

I assume we are talking about the Lariat - don't remember the 2022 prices bc the didn't apply to me.

Do you regularly buy new vehicles and accept the depreciation, or are you holding onto this a while.

If you usually trade in every year, and don't need the range, I'd save the money and get SR. But I agree with RIP that demand for SRs will be much lower than ER.

If holding on for 100,000 miles, due to battery degradation, that range is going to drop.

Since I keep my vehicles until the wheels fall off, I would have to go with the ER Battery.

Can you wait for a few months?

The prices are already dropping fast, though not yet below 2023 MSRP.

These were up to $120,000 when they first came out.

Note, according to the above source, $97,000 is above average.

Update! I have 2 ER models on the hook - one with 6k miles at 3k over list and one with 500 miles at 10k over list - should I go for the more miles and save the money? Apparently the warranty starts at the current miles so that doesn't appear to be a factor. Options are identical otherwise.
Thanks again for all the comments.

I would never pay over list. Prices are coming down fast. But that's just me. 😎

Get financing at a bank or credit union and walk in with a check for sticker. Never pay over.

I’m not big on getting something with 6k miles either. Honestly sounds like settling vs buying what you really want.

Just a few thoughts for what it's worth. (Probably not a lot!). Proud and so far VERY satisfied owner of a 2022 F-150 Lightning Lariat ER with approx 2k miles. I waited a year for the truck. Never have been one to be the 1st to own new technology and had never owned or even driven an EV before. Previous vehicle was 2021 F-150 King Ranch Eco-Boost that I liked very much. But once I read about the performance and ride and handling of the Lightning I decided to put in my order but only because I could purchase at MSRP. I would never pay over MSRP just out of principle. I get supply and demand and respect others choices in their respective markets but would not have paid over MSRP myself. That being said, I agree with those who expect the ER to hold value better than the SR at least in the Lariat. This truck is a game changer in my opinion despite the fact that the fast charging infrastructure is not yet in place (especially here in Texas). But for me with 90% of my driving being local and the fact that I charge in my home garage with the 32amp Ford Portable Charger for pennies on the dollar compared to what I was paying on a monthly basis to fill and top off the King Ranch...So far so good. I personally would not consider buying a Mannequin unless it was discounted to account for mileage and would certainly opt for an ER vs SR. Thanks and good luck to my fellow Lightning owners out there! Have a Merry Christmas!!! Walt

Well, it really comes down to your use case. I really wanted the ER, but I could not justify the price of being over 80k, so I ended up ordering a 2023 Lariat SR with two add-ons; 1. Ford Co-Pilot360™ Active 2.0 and 2. Spray in bedliner. (Being built 12/12/2022). If I could have still ordered an ER for under or at $80k, I certainly would have. I figure my driving will mostly be around town, I never tow and if I go on a long road trip, I stop one or two more times than I would with the ER. To me it just didn't add up. I hope the resell is not that different than the ER, but it might be lower. I only plan to keep it for 3 years and trade up, by then the battery tech and the infrastructure will be better and I expect most EV's will be in the 500 mile range. I agree with others, I would never pay more than MSRP and now that MSRP is so pricey, it makes it even more difficult. Best of luck in your decision.

It gets more interesting…..in town dealer calls me they have a Lariat SR right off the truck. I drove it and think I miss the sunroof and I know I’ll regret not getting ER. Mannequin with 6k miles is now at sticker. I feel I should be able to get it for under sticker with miles on it. Build number in the 16000 range vs 1700 range. Interesting it’s a 2022. Thanks again for the insight

Any thoughts on buying a new 2022 Lariat ER for $5k over sticker in lieu of still waiting for my reservation conversion for a 2023? The 2022 would have no option deletes and save me about $3000….. I guess I am definitely getting impatient as I would never pay over Sticker. Really wish we had a solid answer on a 2022 Lariat ER qualifying me for the $7500 fed tax credit. I been back and forth the last 3 days trying to decide on the 2022 @ +5k or a 2023 at MSRP. I appreciate the input here everyone.

From everything I have read there's an $80k cap on EV prices plus high income disqualifications for the credit in 2023. The $7500 is here and real now which is why I am buying one before year end. I am also trying to take advantage of bonus depreciation which is 100% now and I think goes to 80% next year. If you are looking at new unused or a low mileage mannequin my advice is to buy it for $5k over MSRP.

Yes, the $7500 available now makes the 6,000 miles at MSRP look quite inviting. Don't debate too long or the truck may get snatched up.
