I'm going to pass on the lightning. It just not worth an extra $16k for a truck that can only sort of do truck things. I also have a new found distaste for Ford based on how they dealt with reservations. I'll never buy a Ford again.

I have a Rivian on pre-order as well as the F-150. The one im keeping and the one im flipping for a profit changed. I would suggest everyone who is considering dropping their F-150 reservation reconsider as many dealerships will buy the truck back from you and you could make an easy and quick profit.

I am definitely discouraged by the process and especially the price increase. I will make up my mind when / if I get an opportunity unless I can get a better truck from another brand then I am out of the lightning race.

I'm lucky I took delivery already. In addition to the price increase, looks like congress is trying to screw up the tax credits.

Yea, 100% changed my view of it. I have a Rivian on order as well. Seems like Ford waited til the legislation in congress was more of a certainty and jacked up prices to steal our tax credit. I’m still going to take delivery if they ever actually let me order but I might do what the post above suggests and just sell it back to the dealer. My friend did that a couple weeks ago with a MachE

And the price didn’t matter much anyway for the higher end models. those buyers Won’t be discouraged by the increase.

Interesting. So then let's say the CT comes first, you are buying a Quad Motor for over 100k but the price for the MY23 Lightning is too much?

Most Tesla owners are very loyal and love the UI on their vehicles and overall performance. The only reason I put in a F150 res was to hedge my bets due to the CT delays. Personally I don’t think F150 is worth 90K+… so I’ll probably drop my reservation when called this Fall (I’m 5/19 resv for Lariat). But never say never!

Dime a dozen parts bin truck that looks like the other 1,000,000 trucks they put on the road every year, versus a unique, one of a kind vehicle that's probably beyond equally capable, (rivian or cybertruck) for the same price.....yeah, pretty easy to say no to the Ford. I was on the fence and even leaning heavily towards the Ford. Once I got them side by side and realized I was willing to sacrifice the size benefits of the Ford, the decision, for an equally priced Rivian versus an equally priced F-150, was the easiest decision I've made. Given, I don't need a work truck. The Cybertruck, as funky as it is, if it's something people are willing to consider to begin with, will be equally superior to the ICE conversion of a Ford F-150. Resale value alone warrants the others over the F-150, which will be antiquated as soon as they reveal the All-New Truck built from the ground up to be an EV.

I have an ice family vehicle, a 2006 taco, and a 22 Kia Niro EV. I only want two vehicles but I live in a cold climate and my taco is only RWD I acquired from a cousin when my uncle passed away. As a homeowner having a truck is so convenient.

I’d like only 2 vehicles and the Lightning pro was perfect. Low cost to operate, electric, AWD. However, as a person with a limited budget, my pro went from $44,000 to $52,000 and that’s without an included charging cord. Yikes! Maybe I can get the electric Kia truck in 2027???? Sigh.

What I was really at is the underlying motivation of people. Your response is of someone that doesn't "need" anything in particular. Wants the coolest new thing and just "wants" something. I initially see this question by the OP and in other threads as actual monetary value. For those of us that want this vehicle, not to resale but to actually own. If someone has been waiting for over a year for this vehicle like I had, does the price increase change your mind because it gets priced out of the range that you are comfortable with. Now the other question, that people seem to take a different slant on is: do you think the truck is worth the current price? That too is still interesting since Lightnings are selling on the aftermarket for 110k. shrugs.

I didn't put a reservation down for the Rivian. I wish I had but in comparison, I like the Lightning better. I don't need, want or care about my commuter, family hauler vehicle being funky and unique looking.

And to the question asked by the OP, I would still be interested but knowing what I want I'd probably just go back to a gas powered vehicle that'd be cheaper and have the interior I want.

I am in your boat. i liked that the lightning would be compatible with the 1 million accessories designed for the ICE f150 and possibly be an emergency power backup. Availability of parts and repairs was also a concern for the Rivian, CT and even the GM EV truck. Will Rivian even be around in 5 years? Not if they keep burning cash at the current rate. All that said, I do think $90K+ for an ER Lariat with zero tax credit is more than I am willing to pay. I'll keep the ICE truck I currently have buy a Generac and get a fun car like a 911.

Yes it would. Mine is on the way so I will be getting the Ford. But I would seriously consider forgoing the longer bed and getting a Rivian because of the new prices. The biggest issue in Ford’s pricing is the jump from the base XLT to ER battery version. If was 10k more they would still have a lot of buyers but 80k to get more range is too much.
it’s too bad this truck was crucial for reducing emissions.

It has me doing the math again. I had intended on ordering a Lariat ER without a sunroof to come in right under the $80k price. Now that the price has increased for all the ERs to over $80k, the trouble is that it isn't as simple as a $8k price increase, it's effectively a $15k price increase to the customer. That being the case, I'm keeping my reservation, but I am in the middle of putting together a spreadsheet with the cost comparison (including trade in, fuel savings, and charging costs) of a 2023 Mach-E and 2023 Lightning. Rough back of the napkin math suggests that with a Mach-E being about $50k and my trade in being about $20k, that is about $30k, which means the price increase on the Lightning is half of the amount I'd have to pay to drive a Mach-E. That said, that's just rough back-of-the-napkin math, and I really do have a need for a truck, which is why I rejected the Mach-E in the first place and opted for the Lightning. However, with this massive price increase, I am reevaluating the two vehicles. It could be that I end up ordering a Mach-E, drive it until I order and receive a Lightning, and then trade it in and/or sell it for the Lightning. I'm just going through this thought experiment today.

Welcome @MJC! What spec do you currently have with your reservation? Are you thinking about any other vehicles if you move on from the Lightning?

Thank you, @Super Duty. I'd always planned on the Pro but for some reason my reservation shows XLT. My backup plan would likely be a Maverick, probably hybrid unless Maverick PHEV magically releases. At this point, I'll probably have to hedge my bets and go ahead and order the Maverick when the 2023 order banks open.

@MJC all reservations are for some reason showing XLT now, I'm not sure why, but that's the way it is, even though we never selected a trim level in the reservation process.
