Great truck... HORRIBLE software

Yesterday I got stuck at the side of the road for a while.

Was driving when I had to pull over to the side of the road to clear off some ice that had slide down onto the windshield. Left the truck running when I got out to clean things off.

When I got back in, I couldn't put the truck in gear as it said no key was present. I'm using PAAK and the phone was left in my truck when I got out. Tried opening the Fordpass app and it crashed. Got the app opened up again and the bluetooth status just alternated between Connecting and Disconnected.

My phone was still connected to the car via Bluetooth during all this, as wireless Android Auto worked and phone calls worked.

Tried restarting my phone just in case. Same thing. Phone connected to the truck (calls & Android Auto) but the truck still said no key was present.

Ok, time to enter the manual backup password. Oh wait.. that doesn't work as the keyboard keeps freezing, disappearing, or just not coming up when you press the icon 🤦‍♂️

Thankfully I was only a 5 min walk from my house. So I walked home got a key and came back.

This combined with the FordPass regularly crashing on open.. I REALLY hope that Ford hires up some great developers from all the tech sector layoffs. In the meantime, I'll definitely be carrying my key for a phone.

I'm sorry this happened. Thank goodness you were so close to home. Here's the thing: we are all a bit nuts. If we wanted a bug free truck, we should have waited a year or two to buy it. (By them, many elements other than software will be better.)

Ford had zero software chops a couple of years ago. The single most impressive element of my Lightening has been the code. Far from mature, but better in quite a few ways than our Tesla.

Early adopters are always punished. They are also often rewarded. This truck makes me happy.
