If you have questions, go to the link and submit them.

I've submitted several so far about the MY22 infotainment not getting the Android Auto software stack that the MY23 will be getting - advantage to your group. @Ford Motor Company

Suggested questions I submitted already and plan to bring up:
  • Will the MY22 Infotainment system be upgradable at all to be able to use the Android Auto stack the MY23 is getting?
  • Will the MY22 Infotainment system continue to be supported if the switch to a new system is in the next MY?
  • Are there any EPA figures for different sized loads?
  • Will the MY22 have the ability to play any kind of video media? Will the MY23?

Three of these four questions would be directly of interest to Mach-E owners as well.

The fourth question... if they wanted to be really nitpicky and jerky, they could say the answer is yes, day one, assuming it's going to end up the same as the Mach-E, where the in-car on-screen owner's manual includes videos. But that's not really what you're asking. 😜

Yea, if you follow Tesla even a little bit, you know they ran into this issue as well. We all have smart phones. Putting these devices in cars and making so much go through it will come back to make for an unpleasant experience in a short period of time. Reviewers have already noted that the screen is much snappier in the Lightning than the Mach E. But I wasn't expecting to hear something like that right out the gate already. Especially with them already saying MY22 won't get it. And I agree with someone else on here that commented about rather using carplay. I don't like the idea of inputting my google account into the car.

But I am happy with Sync 4, my only gripe would be media play when the car is in park and with an android auto stack, that should have it since you can download apps to the car. Or hell, make your own.

There's another thread on here where it was stated that we know the answer to your first question is a "no", but I'm too lazy to go find it. It would be good to see them admit that though if only to avoid any further speculation. I'd be amazed if they support such an upgrade, even at a dealership... I suppose it's theoretically possible they would support a full APIM swap or something, although that would be an expensive way for an owner to go. But a full "replace the APIM OS in the field with a completely different OS" feels like a big ask, and way out of possibility for an OTA.

Part of me thinks that they should have just put an HDMI-in or something (MyFord Touch vehicles regularly had composite-video and left/right audio RCA jacks [which was the thing back then!] so there was a precedent of sorts) and just said "there you go". That would have gotten you pretty far. But I suspect the cost/benefit didn't make sense.

Yea I figure the answer is no but I agree, I want to see them admit it. I'm not even saying I want the android stack system (even though I'm an android user). I want to see how it functions first. I imagine Out of Spec will beat it up.

But to the point of someone else on here, that I can't find again lol, having a different set of developers for the newer system. Technically google is that other set cause they'd be maintaining it and this would turn into a situation like having a Samsung phone that runs android auto. This reduces Ford's need to keep up. So technically our MY22 will get Ford's attention....shrugs

  • Lightning not affected by chip shortage, unlike gas powered
  • EPA rating doesn't include 1000 lb load
  • Max towing package - doubles the cooling for the motor and the battery
  • All Lightnings have a push button start
  • You can take it through a car wash, but not flat towable. There is an online guide for all ford vehicles about flat towable
  • Lightning does not feature mood lighting. Lariat and Platinum only have blue ambient lighting, no changing it
  • Lariat is two toned interior, black with medium dark slate
  • Pro trim doesn't have CC but curve control, LK alert and LK Aid
  • dual on board charger?
  • Yep no on the media playing, but I think this is because of the android stack system, they don't want to bother doing it themselves IMO
  • can control zone lighting from the phone
  • No, the signature lighting doesn't offer indication to the charging, just the charge port like in the Mach E
  • Deployable running boards are available on Lariat/Platinum. Think everyone knew that but it'll delay, maybe, your order
  • Apparently, you will be able to play music from a USB stick. mmmhmmm, can't seem to get that to work in the Mach E

Doesn't seem I'm going to get all my questions answered :( Said my name though :D

  • dual on board charger?
Dual onboard charger is a feature included with the extended range battery. That allows for faster charging on the Ford Charge Station Pro -- up to 80A. Effectively there are dual 48A chargers. This is why L2 charging time is longer for the ER than the SR battery on EVSEs with 48A or lower charge rate, but shorter for the ER than the SR on the Ford Charge Station Pro.

Mostly shallow answers to questions. Though the next one seemed to mention getting into the SYNC 4A system, so who knows.

Oh, did I miss anything good?
I highlighted the things that stood out to me. Other than that, he just went over all the trims and what you get. Nothing in-depth.

Nothing you couldn't get from looking at a trim line comparison chart.

Well, he did mention FM_Jack when not really answering his question. And, the team answered my question for the third time in the Livestream by still not knowing the answer. (Does Max Tow's additional cooling capacity improve the DCFC charging curve?)

this directly contradicts info from others, where it's not even orderable... I'm not sure I believe it. My dealer certainly didn't seem to be able to order it, and it was pulled from the order sheet, wasn't it?

I use this a lot in my Mach-E, with the same key I used in my Fusion Energi, and my Fusion Hybrid before that. I have no doubt it will be the same in the Lightning. It would be bizarre if it wasn't.

Yea I was hoping he would say more but it wasn't completely clear. it was asked before I posted that. I actually asked it as a follow up. I think the first person was asking what I was but support team didn't answer it in a good way, at least I didn't think so. I don't think they asked with "deployable" in the question.

Woah woah, you get this to work? what port do you stick it in? I've tried and nothing works in my wife's Mach E. Is it the one in the arm rest?

along the line of whether the 'usb stick' for music will be playable, and I certainly HOPE it will, my new Kia PHEV Sorento has no less than THREE usb ports, side by side, in the center console - although two of them are for charging only, the middle IS for 'music'(thank you, Kia!)... I can only imagine that the FIVE for the back seats are just for charging. Let's hope at least one is playable in the LIGHTNING.

Glad I'm not alone in this. I thought I was going to be the odd man out since everyone loves streaming. SYNC 3 does it, when we got the Mach E it didn't seem like I could. When my wife gets home, I'm going to be trying again >_> @Ford Motor Company were are you?

Does the MME paly flac files, or are mp3 required?
