So I placed my order for ER Lariat in late Sept. and have received build date already for Nov 22nd. Today I was able to access and download the window sticker too. Now I am having cold feet and second guessing the decision to buy an almost $92K OTD cost vehicle. I checked the For Sale section on this forum to get an idea for the going resale price and it didn't give me a lot of confidence either. Seems like although a lot of folks with reservation are not able to get their orders in, yet there are quite a few Lightning trucks being offered for pretty close to my price point.

So the question to my fellow Lightning enthusiasts is, should I approach my dealer to see if I can cancel my order? I don't even know if that is an option and will I be able to get my $100 reservation and $500 deposit back but in the bigger scheme of things I would rather regret loosing $600 than owning a $92K and making $1300/$1400 per month payments.

FYI this truck was meant for my personal use and not for any business purpose. I currently own a Honda Ridgeline and my wife does not like to drive it, so I am pretty sure she won't drive the Lightning either. Thinking of looking at an SUV like an Audi e-tron instead maybe that she will be willing to drive as well.

Thoughts?

92k would be too much for me. The Lightning does appear to be a great truck but seeing that EVs especially EV trucks are going to be jumping in leaps and bounds in regards to new and better technology. who knows what a few years will do to battery and motor technology. I can only imagine will improve range. So where that leave the value of a 92k Lightning? If you keep vehicles long term then maybe none of this matters.

Depending on your financial situation, I would say purchasing a $92K vehicle is usually a bad idea. That said, if the decision to cancel is more related to your wife not liking to drive it, I would recommend test driving one with her.

Before I followed through with an order I took my wife to the dealership and she did a 30+ minute test drive in their mannequin. I have a raptor and she drives a BMW X5M and has said many times she does not like driving trucks like my raptor as they are too big and and not responsive enough. After 10 minutes in the lightning she gave me the thumbs up to order and absolutely fell in love with driving it. It doesn't drive like any truck I've ever been in and is honestly one of the most comfortable and capable full size vehicles out there. My recommendation is take your wife to the dealer and have her spend a good amount of time behind the wheel. If she doesn't like it, cancel. You'll loose your deposit, but won't have to deal with re-selling the vehicle. If she likes it, then you need to figure out if owning a vehicle that costs almost $100K is right for your budget.

I'm pretty confident that you won't lose your deposit. Most deposits on autos in most states are refundable even if they verbally tell you otherwise. If you cancel a Lightning order, your dealer will probably be the one smiling.

Some folks have been able to not only get their deposit back but also reported getting paid by the dealer to not take delivery. That allowed the dealership to sell it with substantial ADM.

What model/trim do you choose (Lariat or Platinum).?? What motivated you to choose the Ford Lightning? Since you are having second thoughts.... I agree with the other comments -- if you feel you are not comfortable with the monthly payments -- just walk away and again the dealership will make a profit with "your truck"!!!
