I have really loved my Lightning for the past few months I have had it. The Ford engineering team have truly done a great job. Most of my gripes have been with software - its just OK. There is stuff that needs to be improved and they are very slow to do it - but it works for the most part.
However, today I came upon the software issue that is simply "crazy stupid". Its something that should have been fixed years ago in both ICE and EV F-150s, but is still there.
Today was the first day I had my Tonneau cover completely folded back. Of course, it completely blocks the rear window (and therefore the rear view mirror) - plus the bed camera. No problem, I have a rear camera that I can use that will essentially replace the rear view mirror. However, when you select the rear camera there is a message that comes on the screen saying "Full view not available" in a big black box RIGHT WHERE THE REAR VIEW CAMERA WOULD BE THE MOST USEFUL!!!! This message cannot be dismissed and does not go away. It makes this rear camera nearly useless in this situation.
I thought there must be a simple solution to this, but there is not. I came across posts in EVERY F-150 forum of people complaining about this and asking Ford to remove this message. ITS SO CRAZY STUPID. This is the first time that the software of the vehicle has really pissed me off.
I don't know if they ever plan to fix this, but someone from Ford needs to read these posts, google "F-150 Full View Not Available" and see how this is impacting safety - especially with the Tonneau cover installed by my Ford dealer.
