For all the haters hoping Lightning prices were going to collapse, here’s good news:

The Ford F-150 Lightning is no stranger to accolades, as the EV pickup has secured many of them over the past several months, including an Edmunds Best of the Best award, the 2023 Commercial Green Car of the Year award from Green Car Journal, 2023 North American Truck of the Year, a 2022 Kelley Blue Book Best Buy award, Vincentric’s 2023 Best Value in America Award, and 2023 MotorTrend Truck of the Year, most recently. Now, the Ford F-150 Lightning has also been selected as one of the recipients of KBB’s 2023 Best Resale Value awards, joining the Ford Bronco SUV and Ford Maverick compact pickup in that regard.

The average 2023 model-year vehicle will only retain about 45 percent of its original value following that time period, meaning that a $45,000 new vehicle today will be worth around $20,250 after five years. By comparison, all vehicles in Kelley Blue Book’s Top 10 for Best Resale Value in 2023 awards are projected to retain around 60 percent or more of their MSRP after the initial five-year ownership period.

Good to hear, but I think a significant component to strong resale values is demand exceeding supply for the Lightning, Bronco, and Maverick. As supply floods the market and demand wanes a bit due to higher interest rates, things could adjust to the downside.

That said, the Lightning will always have strong inherent resale value as it's likely to prove quite reliable and durable due to the significantly less moving parts and general things to fail relative to regular ICE trucks. Electric motors and batteries can last a good 15-20 years with normal use.
