I have a '23 Lariat ER ordered 9/15/22 and delivered 12/8/22 - any smart people out there thinking about how we protect our investment going forward given this problem that devalues Lightning vehicles - legal class action later perhaps?

Edit 2/20/23:

GM offers Chevy Bolt EV owners $6,000 if they promise not to sue over battery fire recall fiasco

This article of 2/20/23 narrows the battery focus a bit but calls it 'spreading'. The '22-23 Lightning from EV Truck of the Year and Best of Best to who knows where given a pause for a few weeks past Feb. 24 - 60 days of 'pause' then 5 years from now we want to sell our Lightnings but buyers remember flawed Lightning battery issues similar to the Bolt drastic devaluation:

The Ford F-150 Lightning Battery Problem Is Spreading

"Things aren’t exactly turning around for the Ford F-150 Lightning as engineers scramble to fix a crucial issue. Production is still paused because of a mysterious Ford F-150 Lightning battery problem that’s being discovered in more models."

"Assembly at the Ford plant has been halted since February 5. One vehicle displayed a battery issue and caught fire,” said a spokesperson for Ford. “We believe we have identified the root cause of this issue. By the end of next week (February 24), we expect to conclude our investigation and apply what we learn to the truck’s battery production process; this could take a few weeks.”

too early for that, I think and hope ford wants to keep their title best selling truck for some time to come so if there is a real issue with batts then lets face it at the moment would be one of the smaller recalls in an auto makers history as I think max vehicles produced is about 18K thus far.

My Aug build ER is a trooper thus far with seemingly minor things to have tweaked.

This is not a ‘problem’ yet - only 100 vehicles affected…probably a bad batch of defective cells.

THIS is a problem, so let’s hope we don’t end up with a list like this: Tesla Fire: Digital record of Tesla fire incidents
It is never too early to recognize a problem - Ford can make it up to us by buying back '23 Lightnings if the buyer so choses or a software update to add 50 miles of range.

I guess I was only suggesting give them a chance to make it right.
Yes I get it but Ford historically behaves in an average way far too often - taxpayers have bailed them out $10's of billions too often & a 2-month shutdown now means workers still get paid so Ford has to take it out on customers to balance the bottom line - plus EV's are fragile values so Lightnings are taking a hit.

NOT TRUE! Ford did not take any bailout money from the government. They only took a $6B loan that is being paid back. Get the facts before posting all your false or misleading information.

With very few exceptions, vehicles are not investments. Vehicles are liabilities.

Automakers have no duty to maintain the value of the vehicles they sell. They do have a duty to engineer safe, functional vehicles even after the sale. That said, Ford has a pretty terrible record of assuring it's vehicles are safe and functional: Pinto, Explorer, and F250s are the most egregious examples I can think of.

It's definitely too early to talk about a lawsuit. There aren't any clear damages. That could change.

The Great Recession of 15 years ago bailed out all the US auto makers - Ford got massive loans that no one else would lend them except US taxpayers! And at super low rates with easy terms! The IR Act has $10's of billions in incentives/bailouts also while the working class teeters - wealthy & poor make out like bandits.

"Then Congress passed the Inflation Reduction Act in August, which included big tax breaks for building batteries in the US. That’s when Ford and CATL suddenly shifted their sights north of the border, those sources said. “The IRA was incredibly important to us,” Lisa Drake, Ford’s vice president of EV industrialization, told reporters February 13. “It did what it was intended to do.”"

Taxpayers are the investment losers - so that is most of us but perhaps that's not clear to you.

Ford mortgaged everything, up to and including the logo with private loans, while GM and Chrysler "re-organized" under US Gov't bailouts. Ford stock remained in the hands of those who held it, while GM & Chrslyer stockholders mostly lost their investments - US Gov't became their primary shareholders. The Treasury generally made money on the GM & Chrsyler bailouts, though, when they sold the stock down the road.

But you are correct in that they also took a loan from the Feds...

I think it's a bit too early to see this as a wide spread problem. Just look around on this forum. Don't see tons of posts about bad batteries. Everybody that manufactures a product will have some bad items and experience a bad production run. Fortunately for Ford they still haven't got production going full bore yet.

I'm not giving Ford a pass just think it's not time to panic. I have never owned a Ford (yet) so I might be naive but I think they have too much riding on this to not handle it right.

Easy for some to say with nothing to risk and scant legal knowledge. Reason prevails & not panic as you suggest.

Take your BS to someone that cares - you're the one behaving like a "troll" - are you trying to be a teen again by using troll and WTF - no adult comments like that.

Maybe they should take the freshly manufactured battery pack and put it out on the back 40 for about 6 months and then if it lasts that long without catching fire install the darn thing

I remember my first F-150 seeing dedicated CNG truck I picked the dedicated because the bi-fuel only had a 10 gallon fuel and Arizona supplied me with a free fuel maker. Having always been a Chevy man I was really surprised to see the upper and lower A-frame suspension and Saginaw type steering after that 144,000 miles later the biatch burn to the ground because of a cruise control / interlock. I just remember waking up in the middle of the night to an inferno just far enough away that I could escape out this front entrance of my little Park model trailer I am so glad that I didn't park anything that I owned closer however Ford has been an excellent vehicle no problem with the transmission was the steering or the tires it did a very good job until the day it died LOL
