The only thing I see that you can compare based on the prototype Chevy has just shown at car shows is that the Frunk is smaller than the F-150 and that the it has a passthrough. The passthrough is a part useful, part gimmick, mostly nice to have. I keep thinking about the winter time if someone wants to use it as a work vehicle; you have to drive around with an open cabin. Even in the summer time if someone wants to use the A/C, you won't.

And the rest of the things it is like the Rivian. Seems like the Chevy is going to be more comparable to the R1T than the F-150. Ford went hard on the "work" truck aspect of the vehicle. The utility. So the Chevy should be heavier than the F-150.

I'm still surprised no manufacturer has pitched the idea of quick interchangeable batteries. The customer would buy a car and lease battery rights. An easily automated battery swap out system.

Charge on their own at home or go for a quick swap at a station for a pre charged one.

This eliminates the fear of the vehicle becoming worthless as battery degrades. Oh wait that's why mfgs. Don't want to do that, the cars would last too long and demand would shrink.

for the same reason I have to go to the dealer to get a software fix for my trailer brakes....they would rather get that income than push it as an OTA software update like they should.

The Rivian R1T curb weight is 7100 lbs, while the F-150 Lightning curb weight is 6100 lbs. Which, by default, the Chevy EV will weigh more because it has a bigger batter pack.

The charging rates will increase, they are already planning that. For this spec of the Lightning it does just as good as the Rivian even though the Lightning has a slower charge rate.

Yea, but I'm on the list for a Silverado as well.

350kW vs 150kW is a big advantage. If the 2023 battery pack in the Lightning is the same size as this year's, but they increase charging speed to 200kW...I'd probably pull the trigger.

How is it a big advantage? The Rivian has the same 350 and from 15% to 80% the Lightning was one minute off with its charging curve compared to the Rivian.

While the Rivian is CAPABLE of 350, no one is getting that yet. I think they're software-capped at ~200 for the moment. the 350 is expected in a later software update.

So like the Chevy EV, magic numbers. The Lightning is here now. There is nothing to compare. I am glad that Chevy is just going with "Final price set by dealer" though.

Rivian still has to do software tricks because in real world testing, holding that higher rate isn't sustained because of cooling. Everyone will have to use software tricks to improve the curve.

This still isn't anything to compare because the Chevy EV is over a year away. Ford built something for now while trying to keep cost down. The DCFC rate isn't where the majority of them will charge. I can count on my hand the number times I'll need to do so in one year.

The Lightning is expensive enough, I'd wager the big battery will push the Chevy at least $20K over a similar Lightning. Like the Hummer, it will weigh a lot. It's got some pros, but a lot of cons. Price likely being the biggest one.

Here's hoping the Mad Max Tow package results in future software tweaks that enable equipped vehicles to hold that DCFC curve higher longer.

The key stat for me is the Chevy has lower payload. Only 1300 or 1200 lbs.
Until they build a Heavy Duty 3/4 ton version with a 6.5' bed and 3000 lb payload, I am not really happy with any of them.

The Chevy and Rivian 800 volt batteries ARE the future and will result in faster charging times with less cooling requirements.

I am also not a fan of the giant frunks and long hood. Would rather have a more cab-forward design and longer/bigger main cargo bed. I can always put a toolbox or cover on the main bed if more enclosed cargo space is needed.

Below is the config I really want in an electric truck.

Ford actually already offers an electric version of their Transit Chassis Cab, but not in double-cab for the electric version, and only in the super-long 178 in wheelbase in the U.S. And the battery is kind of small - only 140 mile range.

So technically, if comparing electric trucks, you can also compare to the below which can easily be customized with a pickup-style box or flat bed.

The Chevy and Rivian 800 volt batteries ARE the future and will result in faster charging times with less cooling requirements.

800V isn't really that much better. In fact, Chevy isn't a true 800V battery. Rivian is 400v (more like 360).

You might want to watch this video before thinking 800V is the end-all-be-all.
