Great video, about what I expected. Thing to consider is at 270 miles of range at 70 MPH, you cannot utilize this full range when road tripping. The recommended charging session would be to stop at 80% (due to major decrease in charge rate) and obviously you don’t want to take the truck to 0 before stopping again. I’m not sure what the low end percentage should be, I’ve heard a lot of EV “pros”, or whatever you want to call them, say try to stay above 10-15%. So if you only charge to 80% and you stop to charge again at 15%, thats 65% of the 270 mile range (in perfect conditions) which comes about 176 miles between charges, which is about 2.5 hours of drive time @70 MPH. Does anyone have better insight as to whether going below 10-15% repeatedly with the Lightning is going to be harmful to battery health? I know FORD is ultra conservative and there is like some buffer on the lower end but still what do you all say is a good number to stick with and obviously you always want to reserve some range for the unexpected?

I look forward to people reporting normal daily driving numbers with mix of stop and go city and some highway kinda like maybe travelling to work and home maybe a beer store stop on way home im canadian eh..

1. Charge to 100% prior to leaving on a road trip that requires charging. Don't stress if you've charged to 100% overnight and leave the next morning, Ford provided a 100% charging option on the Lightning for a reason, this!

2. Charge to 80% if your next destination on the trip is a 100 kW+ station. However, if next is 50 kW station, charge to 90% to see if you can "skip" a slower 50 kW DC charging stop.

3. As you are nearing the charging stop, choose to speed up to use up any remaining buffer and arrive with 10% (or less if you are confident). When 40 miles away from a stop, it's straightforward to know if you can make the next stop if you can do basic math, Lightning gets ~2 miles / kWh at 70 mph (adjusted for wind speed), battery capacity is either 98 or 131 kWh, battery percentage is available on the infotainment screen.

4. Battery health is a non-issue for road trips, always charge to 100% when at home right before trip, and at hotel overnight stays. Going lower than 10% is a non-issue if you are immediately charging and thus battery won't be sitting at low states of charge for long.

Our 2013 Tesla has hundreds of supercharges (DC fast) and 92% original capacity. 10 year old car, not babied, often charged to 100%!

That was excellent. I get a kick out of folks who post about not going below 10% on a trip. For many of us, we could go no where if we avoid going below 10%. That is terrible, terrible advise for many; just get it charged up quickly at that point.

Absolutely spot on. 80,000 miles on my current EV, multiple coast to coast trips (the most recent towing a trailer). Sold my last EV with over 139,000 miles on it, battery in great shape.

This result makes sense. While the Mustang Mach E gets its EPA overall range at 70 mph, it is a very aerodynamic vehicle. The Lightning is pushing a brick through the air. Fortunately it nails it’s EPA Highway range at 70 mph.
