“These trucks will be used to prove out quality…” but how?

The Lightnings price is decent but one major question is how reliable will it be? I mean due to the amount of tech I will not be surprised of more than avg TSB and recalls popping up.

This is just standard operating procedure for all automakers when there is a new model. Pre-production run to make sure the assembly process is working correctly and turning out acceptable vehicles. Such vehicles cannot be sold and ultimately get scrapped.

These are still the early test builds. Full-up pre-production builds won't come for a while yet. Even those are vehicles that cannot be sold (although they can go to certain employees within Ford on a non-sale basis). These pre-production units are the ones that go for serious testing. This is also where they iron out the stages of assembly line production to prepare for full assembly line production. However, the assembly line doesn't start up like a Lightning, it accelerates very slowly. That's part of why so few units will come out in 2022.
