It looks like Teslas price cuts have forced Ford to do the same thing with the Mach-E. The cuts range from $600 to $5900 depending on the model.

According to Ford the price cuts mean that not all Mach-E "will be profitable on a per-unit basis."

I wonder if we could see something like this with the Lightning?

As someone with a Lightning on order (but not in production, yet), I'm gonna wait as long as possible before making a decsion to follow through with the purchase. I imagine others will, too, waiting to see if Ford drops the prices. Increased on-lot availability makes it much easier to wait.

The predicted price wars begin.
👍
Excited to see this starting, but my guess is that Ford will wait until 24 model year to decrease price...lots of unhappy customers with orders that are locked in at current prices to decrease now...but good news if you are looking to pick up a new or used 22/23 (as I am) as that market is getting soft. Not sure why anyone would place an oder for a new 23 at this point unless they have very specific needs around color/features

Customers who have ordered but not picked up their cars will receive the new price cut already automatically. Anyone who accepted delivery after January 1st 2023 but before this announcement is even getting contacted for a private offer. This is incredible customer service for an oem.

Just place an order for Lariat ER. If the market gets too soft, I can always walk away from the deal and lose the $500, however dealer promised verbally that I get the $500 back.
I am not looking to do that but that is my worst case. a better thing would be that the prices are cut on F-150s and we receive the discount

I'm not a lawyer, but this a very common misconception. Check state laws, not the 'dealer said'. In most states, the $100 reservation fee and any additional deposit (probably the additional $500 you refer to) made at the time of the order are refundable.

What I meant was if the dealer denies what he promised, I am not going to lose sleep over it. Hopefully I will walk away with the truck when it is delivered. Maybe at a reduced price. But that might be too much to expect

I understand the MME being discounted, but right now the competition for the Lightning is equally or more expensive than the Lightning. I don't see significant price cuts anytime soon on the Lightning personally.

This convinces me the 2023 price hike was from greed more than necessity and I hope Ford feels the pain of pricing available ER Lightnings above the $80,000 tax credit limit -- but not too much since own the stock. 💵🤠

We probably define "competition" differently but I agree. And with my definition being a pickup truck...

Except for fleets, GM's initial Silverado and Sierra EV orders will be limited to the high end - advertised for $105,000. I'll be dumbfounded if available Cybertrucks aren't MSRP'd below $80,000, making them $72,499, so that may change things. And though really 2024 competitors, they both promise 500 mile range.

Dodge, Nissan, and Toyota aren't even on the playing field.

So Ford still has the only EV pickup available.

Agreed. I have always suspected that the Lightning price increases last year was more an attempt by Ford to capture some of the economic rents dealers were enjoying by applying ADMs, than actual cost increases. Unfortunately for Ford and the high markup dealers, economic rents tend to be transitory and disappear over time. What they leave in their wake are very unhappy customers who feel (rightly) that they have been taken advantage of, and who will think twice before buying 1) a Ford 2) from a high ADM dealer.

I walked away from my invitation to order because the Lightning has become a high priced luxury automobile disguised as a pickup truck. I also walked away from my “Friendly Local Ford Dealer” who offered to sell me a Lightning Lariat on their lot for $10,700 above MSRP.

Here's the official announcement from Ford.

DEARBORN, Mich., Jan. 30, 2023 – With its new EV supply chain coming online, Ford is significantly increasing production of the Mustang Mach-E this year to help reduce customer wait times and to take advantage of streamlined costs to reduce prices across the board, making Mustang Mach-E even more accessible to customers and keeping it competitive in the marketplace.

The production increase is a key part of the Ford+ Plan, underscoring the company’s commitment to lead the EV revolution by increasing the value of its EVs for customers, continuing to position Mustang Mach-E as a compelling option for those looking for an electric SUV, and growing market share. Ford already offers EV customers a full-size truck, SUV and van – and has secured the batteries and raw material to scale production of all these models in 2023.

Mustang Mach-E delivers the 0-60 thrills with an available EPA-estimated 300+ mile range1 and zero tailpipe emissions. It is available with BlueCruise hands-free driving on more than 130,000 miles of highway and can be updated through over-the-air Ford Power-Up software updates. All Ford EV customers also have access to more than 79,000 charging plugs and growing through the BlueOval Charge™ Network, North America’s largest public charging network.2

Almost all of Mustang Mach-E’s growth to date is incremental to the brand with two-thirds of Mustang Mach-E customers coming from competitor brands.

The Mustang Mach-E was the No. 3 EV model in the U.S. in 2022 and the updated pricing is part of Ford's plan to keep the SUV competitive in a rapidly changing market, while strengthening Ford’s position as the No. 2 U.S. EV manufacturer as it continues to scale that part of the business.

“We are not going to cede ground to anyone. We are producing more EVs to reduce customer wait times, offering competitive pricing and working to create an ownership experience that is second to none,” said Marin Gjaja, Chief Customer Officer, Ford Model e. “Our customers are at the center of everything we do – as we continue to build thrilling and exciting electric vehicles, we will continue to push the boundaries to make EVs more accessible for everybody.”

MSRP excludes destination/delivery fee plus government fees and taxes, any finance charges, any dealer processing charge, any electronic filing charge, and any emission testing charge.

Existing Mustang Mach-E customers awaiting delivery of their vehicle will automatically receive the adjusted price and for customers with a sale date after Jan. 1, 2023, and already have their Mustang Mach-E, Ford will reach out directly.

“Part of our mission at Ford is to treat customers like family,” said Gjaja. "We want our customers to know they made the right decision by choosing a Mustang Mach-E, and we’ll continue to play a proactive role in doing the right thing for those joining the Ford family.”

In addition to adjusted pricing, on Mustang Mach-E vehicles ordered between Jan. 30 and April 3, 2023, Ford Credit will be offering special rates as low as 5.34%.

“This is a natural companion to the new Mach-E pricing,” said Craig Carrington, Ford Credit executive vice president for North America. “The offer is straightforward and competitive, enabling customers to lock in today’s rates, even if rates go up between order and delivery.”

Have prices dropped or are they just returning to where they were before this anomalous period of time when people thought they were getting a “deal” only paying MSRP. People lost their minds for a while but things always revert to the mean whether that be tulips or overpriced pickup trucks.

If you or someone you know has a Mach-E order already, they should get the lower price as well as new customers.

“Existing Mach-E customers awaiting delivery of their vehicle will automatically get the lower price and customers with a sale date after Jan. 1, 2023, who have already taken taken their vehicles home will also qualify for price reduction, Gjaja said.”

My Mach-E built in March 2021 Premium eAWD with extended range was about 55k MSRP (minus destination charges)
So we are still about 5-7k over the launch pricing

I realize there was a huge inflation, but I seriously doubt Ford are losing money per-unit
