Major liability issues possible here: exploding individual batteries and Ford's 8 year battery warranty(at least 70% capacity remaining, I think). Who knows what the battery issues will have during those 8 years. Better to resolve problems now...

A few months ago I had ran out of patience and bought a lariat lightning with a small battery. The country town I'm in is just a little too far away to get to Tucson and back on one charge so I would still like the one that I have on order. Maybe it is Providence telling me to be satisfied with the one I own after all it is a great truck.

Not to be pedantic but I think it's worth pointing out: Those warranty terms are federally mandated in the US. We absolutely wouldn't have a battery warranty that strong from Ford if they were not forced to give it to us.

States can also have their own rules if they exceed the federal terms, as California has done.

Yes. 10year/150k miles.
I did some reading and I’m pretty sure the California requirement for 10 year/150k miles is for PZEV - Partial Zero Emission Vehicles; i.e. hybrids. That standard does not yet exist for BEV - Battery Electric Vehicles like our Lightnings. It may be coming in the future. I bought my Lightning in California and it has 8 years/100k mile battery warranty.

Not really surprising news here but the NHTSA has been in contact with Ford because of this issue.

WASHINGTON, Feb 16 (Reuters) - The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said it is holding discussions with Ford Motor (F.N) after the automaker halted F-150 Lightning production and deliveries following a battery fire.

The U.S. automaker said the suspension of production of its F-150 electric truck will last until at least the end of next week. Ford said one EV truck caught fire on Feb. 4 during a pre-delivery quality inspection in a company holding lot in Dearborn, Michigan, and spread to a nearby truck. The automaker halted production the next day at its assembly plant.

Ford did not immediately comment on the talks with NHTSA.

Ford said Wednesday it believes it has identified the root cause of the fire and expects to conclude an investigation by the end of next week and apply findings to the truck's battery production process, which could take a few weeks.

The automaker said it will continue to hold "already-produced vehicles while we work through engineering and process updates." The automaker said it was "not aware of any incidents of this issue in the field and do not believe F-150 Lightnings already in customers' hands are affected by this issue."

You may be right. Sorry if I got your hopes up! I don't live in California and assumed that law included BEVs.

Do you have a link to that federal mandate? It’s not something I’ve ever heard of.
