Tire Car Wheel Vehicle Automotive lighting

I took delivery of my new $95k Electric Platinum Lightning F150 on June 25th, Drove it for 80 miles and parked it. Charged it on my charger for three hours and then drove another 8 miles. Parked it and then went back to drive it two hours later and it would not start. Had a message that said "exit vehicle safely". Was able to get the center screen consule to light up and put it into "EMERGENCY TOW" mode. Called a tow truck and had it delivered to my local FORD dealership and it was dropped off in front of the service departments front door. I called them Monday morning; June 27th and they said that the truck would not turn on at all.

They did not know what to do. The truck sat in front of their service customer entry door until Thursday; June 30th. Not sure how they moved it. I hope they did not drag it away from the front door.

They told me that they had NO CLUE how to repair and HAVE NOT told me if they can fix. They claim they are waiting on FORD engineers to help. BUT NO HELP has arrived.

This is complete BS and i find it unbelievable that FORD and their service representatives cannot even diagnose the problem with the new truck

Where do you go for help? any ideas? DO NOT BUY one of these trucks!

Not good for you and I feel your frustration anyone of us would feel same way, unfortunately we are the ones (early buyers) that will likely experience the most frustration with these trucks. I have a 2017 F350 diesel that most ford dealers cannot diagnose and fix half the time, most them only employ 1 diesel mechanic and some of those are good but some are not and I have to move on to less conveniently located dealer. Growning pains for ford dealers coming to a town near you!

One thread is enough - I see two at least. Ford will get it diagnosed, but you bought a bleeding edge vehicle. One of the first years, the first few thousand. Just work with them, or have it moved to another dealer if that is an option if you think it isn't the dealer working hard enough. Absolutely no reason not to buy this truck. If you care too you could probably put a for sale sign on it and get your money back now and someone else would be willing to work through the problem. It is under full warranty. Not getting you in a loaner is another issue - they should have been happy to do that the second you pulled in. That is why I ask about the dealer.

I only know I've learned the hard way too - you'll get better service working with them nicely than ranting and raving around them, not saying you have, but keep that in mind.

Sorry to hear the news @Sykoman. Fingers crossed that once the engineers take a look it will be a quick fix. I'd much rather wait and have them look at it than a clueless dealer.

Welcome to the forum. The main “dashboard” shows all forum pages, so you don’t need to start the same thread in separate pages. This is obviously a corner case and not a common issue that plagues the truck in general. You are an early adopter driving a first of its kind piece of technology, so this is kind of expected. If this isn’t for you, you’re in luck. Someone will gladly give you your money back for it. If this happens to me, I’ll be pissed but also understanding of what I signed up for.

Sorry to hear about your issue. Hey @Ford Motor Company, please help out here.

Agreed you shouldn't have this problem with a brand new truck. However, things like this happen with brand new technology. I had my Mustang Mach E die like this right after delivery. It took about a week but Ford figured out what was wrong. It's been a great car since those initial issues. Hopefully Ford will get you back on your way soon.

Well... "Do not buy this truck" may be a little extreme. But on that note, none of the legacy OEMs are up to speed yet. I am working through a similar situation with Chevy.

A couple pieces of information missing from your post. What was your SOC when you parked it last (much more informative than "I charged it with my charger")? I am just curious, as it can give you some clues. Keep us posted, and let me know if my diagnosis turns out accurate: faulty 12v battery. Very often the culprit in modern EVs. For future reference, it is super easy to check yourself.

sorry OP, looks like you get be the first guinea pig for repairs.

There is ZERO excuse for this failure - electric motors and batteries are not complicated - I'm sorry for your experience and when @Ford Motor Company can find my mid-May build and get it to Maryland I sure hope I don't meet the same fate.
while they aren't as complicated as ICE vehicles, there is still a lot of technology in them.

Things still break and need fixing.

Ford has everything! Everything riding on this truck, they are going to get this fixed fast, I'll bet the farm on that, yes the dealers have no idea yet but lets be a bit fair here they never ever touched one these till now, not one of us can expect perfection on year one of a completely new drivetrain on this truck, you cannot seriously!

Why do you think that?

I've spoke to 2 separate dealers. The sales guy I'm working with has driven in a Lightning months ago, it was a dealer only event (Mitchell from TCC custom has also had numerous ride-alongs with it). The other dealer, I spoke with someone in the service department and they had training on it. Another person, that just popped into my head, is a guy from my mustang club who works in the service center of a dealer in the next state. He's worked on the Mach E and has had the Lightning training.

As you said, this is important to Ford and they are pushing out a lot of information and trying to get everyone prepped and on board. Yet, of course, nothing is perfect. If this is just a dead 12V battery then that's an easy fix. And dealers have had at least 2 years now to deal with any servicing with the Mach E, so dealing with an EV isn't new.

As some other people pointed out, not much detail on what the OP was doing with the vehicle. So user error can't be eliminated. If you mistreat a gas powered car, it will fail on you as well. And if your 12V battery drains in a gas powered vehicle, it won't start either.

However, I will say that each dealer is going to be unique in their enthusiasm to address issues with your vehicle.

well i have been installing elevators my whole life and can say when we get something new like a controller, yes I understand the basics of the new controller but I have no experience in troubleshooting it or common reoccuring issues developing with that new controller, not a dig on any ford dealer or tech I was simply saying they have a bit to get familiar with this year to say the least. Again I been doing this my whole life and it doesnt matter if it is a new truck or new elevator, I need a chance to learn it!

It would be CONSIDERATE for the OP to come back and explain to the audience his interaction with the dealership and the fact that the FORD Factory engineers are already addressing this incident.

This is a curious response. how do you know that the engineers are working on my truck? the dealership told that to me also, but when i pressed them to allow me to talk to someone from Ford, they responded by telling me that i could not do that. therefore, i am inclined to not believe the claim that someone from Ford other than the Dealership staff is looking at my truck. BTW, i was able to talk with the Dealership staff that was working on my truck.....
