I don't think the Cybertruck is a competitor. Just because the are both "pickup trucks" doesn't mean they are marketed to the same customer. One look at tells it all. Ford deliberately made theirs look just the an ICE F150 for a good reason: Serious truck buyers want a truck they can use with proven durability that has performance advantages over an ICE. Potential Cybertruck owners like general functionality of a truck but how many of them are trading in their Silverado, F-150, or Ram for one? Seems to me a radical design is their so everyone will know (or think) they are "high tech environmentalists". It' a fashion statement just like the Prius. Just my opinion.
This is what we have to sit and wait and see what Ford does in 2 years. The Lighting was a very quick throw in a battery and electric motors to have something to sell. It is working as most like the F150 for what it is, me included. However, what will they do with the redesign in 2 years from the new factory. It is going to look like the Silverado, etc. It will have to be redesigned for EV efficiency - this truck is none of that.

At the end of the day - not one truck, Rivian, Cyber, Silverado, nor the new Ford coming in 2 years will be a truck that has the functionality of todays' pickups.

The demand and use of this truck might be enough to convince Ford to not go too radical, but they have to redesign for efficiency and when they do, will be left with a bed you can use?

This thread can turn into a pissing match just like almost all truck conversations have for the past 100 years - there is brand loyalty and that may be a good thing or a bad thing. One thing in common - these big companies are in it for a profit and the bigger the better. Most of the time that means you and I are going to get screwed.

I know there are so called Supply Chain issues (I'm not convinced they are as real as they are made up and being used for profits in some cases), but reality is there has been more profit in a pickup and SUV than any other "model" for years. Dealers used to discount a pickup sometimes by a few thousand. That doesn't happen any more, pure profit to the bottom line for the dealer. I know they don't have many of them to sell these days, but the profit is guaranteed. Ford has been on the dealers for ADM, so they just throw them a bone and bump the MSRP. We rarely see an invoice or true price paid, way too many kickbacks and bonuses that go on for that final pricing.

I don't know what will happen with the Cyber truck pricing for existing reservations. I do know that they are on record that the price for FSD (yes I have it on a current car and know the limitations) would be locked at the price at time of reservation. I believe the tri-motor is probably being dropped for likely a dual motor and quad motor - the single and tri-motor will never be built

I believe Musk would take a little less profit to be able to sell the number he has lined up, but I figure those prices will go up some. I will say Tesla has proven with billions of miles on their car, their hardware, software, battery technology that no one else can touch for experience. If it weren't for Tesla I can guarantee you we wouldn't be here having this conversation.
