Well since I have a spreadsheet based on current Georgia Power rates, of which there are four, and assuming $3.50/gal of gas, even though I only paid $2.55 for it yesterday...and still have no idea what I'll be saving...

Like what is the lifetime of my new truck?

That was my question as what are they considering the lifetime of a new truck. With some quick figures, it looks like they were basing gasoline prices around $3.09 a gallon and the life expectancy of the truck at an average of 20 mpg using 8777 gallons come out to a little over 175k miles.

'23 Lightning Lariat ER here in central Washington hydroelectric - free plug in Level 2 & even 3 ports given 2 dams within 20 miles - so free energy & almost no cost maintenance with use of a FordPass Visa card. $50k lifetime savings estimate. $15k federal tax offset given 2 EV's purchased - 1 sold.

Ford's Lightning assumptions to get their $27,200, compared to mine, which ranges from $11,000 to $26,000 bc GA Power has five different rates. Of course this ignores the time value of money.

Ford used the 2022 Platinum vs my ER Lariat and,

51.7 kwh/100 miles from fueleconomy.gov and epa.gov/automotive-trends, vs my 50kwh/100 miles, which I still think is optimistic.

440 gCO2e/kWh guestimated electric emissions, from epa.gove/egrid. I get 20% of my electricity from nuclear, but I am claiming all my electricity is nuclear, for the same reason I believe in God - it makes me feel better.

19.1 mpg used as average pickup, epa.gov/automotive-trends, compared my 14 mpg (at best) for my current F150, or 33 for my motorcycle.

Mileage = "useful life value...225,865 miles for light trucks," per 40 CFR 86.1865 12(k)(4). I am thinking 200,000 miles and 20 years, based on my 21 year-old F150 only having <210,000 miles, and only getting 80 .miles/charge/

So it is unjustifiable except for being able to look down on all my liberal, vegan, tree hugging friends from the seat of my Lightning⚡ with self righteous superiority👼, while eating a hamburger, with a load of firewood freshly cut with my electric chainsaw, and throwing my trash on the street!😯

One a slightly more serious note, I think I'll be canceling my reservations on my three other EV pickup trucks.

So are you getting a lightning or not? So far on mine I've put 3,957 miles on it since I got it in October and have paid $145 in electricity in it. I'm on Jefferson Energy Coop and energy is cheap for me. If I was still in my ecoboost with an average of 20mpg at a cost of 3.09 for fuel, I would have spent around $612 so far in 3 months.

Hmm my 2019 Ram 1500 Classic 4x4 crew cab tradesman (very barebones) was $39k got 17mpg and I commuted 165 days a year @52 miles for 8580 miles. That’s 504 gallons at $3.00/gallon (very generous) is $1512

My Lightning Pro was $43754 - $9500 (fed and state credits)= $34254. Same yearly commute 8580. Using 2.0miles /kWh is 4290 kWh at overnight $0.08 / kWh is $343.

I already saved $5914 in year 1 and $1169 a year thereafter on fuel. That is just commuting mileage. Figuring a normal 12000 miles a year and fuel savings goes from $1169 to $1814 a year.
after 5 year of ownership I’ve saved $13815. If I subtract out my charger cost and install the savings is still $13000 over 5 years. I’m good with saving $2600 a year, over 5 years.

I have a xlt er without bluecruise, but the lariat I drove a few months before with it didn’t work on hwy 1 with it yet. I’m right down the road from wrightsville.

Ahhhhh, that’s just gas savings if I read that correctly. Not included is ALL the maintenance you won’t be paying, such as the transmission work I had done at $4k this year at 140,000 miles, and the 5 x year oil changes. Also, is anyone accounting for the fact that on a turbo, you are supposed to be putting hi octane gas in the engine, which the eco boost (and if I’m correct, all of the F150s with a 20mpg rating) are? Last point, my 2011 f150 eco boost was supposed to be getting 20 mpg , I haven’t seen thst Since 4 miles off the lot. These days we are around 13 mpg, so that 20 mpg estimate might be generous by 60 %

Your 13 mpg beats my 12 mpg on my 2001 5.4 ICE, But I haven't bought new transmission, yet. 🤞That means the $20,000 EV premium should pay for itself over 200,000 miles (less the time value of money over what I expect to be 15 years).

5 x a year oil changes? Rough and dirty conditions or a butt load of miles?

I plan to ignore Ford's 'bring it in for a $200 computer check/cabin filter change/tire rotation,' so I will be saving that.

The Lightning has two transmissions which I think cost $1800 each (though single speed and I am guessing more of a rheostat?) Except for the ICE and maybe rear differential, is there a part on the ICE F150 which the Lightning doesn't have a corresponding part? It even has a radiator for the battery coolant.

But I have found all that stuff pretty reliable, and am counting on the electrical parts to be bullet, and flood, proof. Bc if not, my tears will probably flood the interior.😢😭😂

their analysis is considerably higher than my own calculations. I didn't attempt to figure out why but I did these calculations back in Feburary this year. Keep in mind that that was before anyone actually owned a Lightning so I use assumptions based on what we know at that time, but I think the calculations are still valid.

The F-150 Lightning has a 130kw battery
Range is expected to be 300 miles from a full charge
My last Entergy bill was $198 for 1917kw of electricity = $010.2 per kwhr
130kw * .012 = $13.26 cost to drive that 300 miles

My Avalanche gets 18mpg around town. so for each 300 miles:
300/18 = 16.7 gallons used
16.7 X $3.09/gallon = $51.50 to drive that 300 miles.

Cost/mile is about $0.17/mile for my Avalanche
Cost/mile for a Lightning will be about $0.044/mile or about 1/4th as much.

12,000 miles in my Avalanche will cost $2,040
12,000 mile in a Lightning will cost $545

Cost savings per year at 12k miles is about $1500 per year or $15,000 for 10 years.
