What are others thoughts on these? As a first time EV owner, I don't know what problems may lay ahead so looking at these plans. However most of the literature I've found is for ICE vehicles and I'd like to know what the fine print exclusions would be for the Lightning. I've already found out that the Maintenance plan would only apply once a year so wouldn't cover both annual tire swaps if I put winter tires on and I'd have to go for the Premium Plus Extended Warranty to cover LED lights.

The battery and drivetrain have long warranties. EVERY extended warranty is designed to make the seller money. It is just insurance. Some might use it, most will not, the seller wins. It is all about what you believe you need to be covered. The average consumer will not come out ahead. Most people will never have the total cost of repair that would exceed the cost of the warranty. A few might and those are the ones it would pay off for, but it will not for the averages.

The market is way down - take that money and invest it. See what happens by the time the extended warranty runs out.

Not sure what the ESP warranty will be with the Lightning, but got my ESP from Anderson and Koch-Ford. They were the best price online and half the price from dealer I bought my 13 Limited from. Also extended it after the first 6 years. Figured I would have had a new F150 by then. Even with the extension was still cheaper than the dealer.

After you purchased and extended it, did it pay off? Did you need repairs that would have exceeded the cost of the warranty?

I ended up using my extended warranty for my 2018 f150 when the moonroof broke right after the 3 year manufacturer warranty expired! $800 job to fix. i had a $100 deductible 🤷‍♂️
How did that repair compare to the cost for the warranty itself?

Extended warranties are simply another revenue stream for the dealership and Ford.

Only a few will come out ahead financially, the vast majority will not. It’s no different than life insurance and number crunched by professional actuaries.

Buying the extended warranty from Ford was a no brainer for me. I typically do most of my own car maintenance. I have a 2 post lift in my garage, but other than tire rotation there not much else I’m prepared to fix on the Lightning. What concerns me most is the complex plumbing related to battery cooling and climate systems. Check out the Sandy Munro comparison of the Mach-e plumbing vs the Tesla I assume the lightning is similar. Ford built a Rube Goldberg machine and when a pump or hose fails I shudder to think what that would cost out of warranty.
