considering our first extended road trip south this Feb to attend the Miami boat show. maps show ~2400 Kms one way
a few questions.....
  1. winter tires switched to summer tires? how to plan to swap out once past the snow belt of Lake Ontario?
  2. keep tires in bed under back cover for whole trip and add to weight or store at a dealer that swaps them out?
  3. put on summer tires right away, the originals that came with truck, 20,000 KMs on them now , wait for weather window to get south of syracuse?
  4. how to plan to find working charge stations along the way...predicting about 7 stops to charge or 3 overnights on the way down....will need hotels with chargers.
or am I nuts and just take wifes Lincoln ICE?

Looking for suggestions and thoughts

By summer tires, do you mean the stock All Season tires or do you really mean summer tires?

Confirmed, they are ALL season that came with the Lightning. There fore I will install them in preparation for the trip and leave the snows behind.

any suggestions for apps to utilize in the states to locate chargers?

I’m just using the myFordpass app to find chargers, and it’s been pretty good in Canada. I would think it would be even better in the US having been primarily designed for that market. Were it me, I would install the stock tires instead of switching back-and-forth but at the same time, I’m not as adventurous as you to test the range limits on a trip like that! But I do wish you well and success, and will be following this thread to see how you make out if you decide to use the. Lightning! I hope you have a trouble free trip.

One other thing - be sure you have a plan if the hotel chargers are taken for each overnight.
Agreed. Finding a hotel with a charger that has a DCFC nearby is a valuable safety net.

A Better Route Planner and PlugShare.

Although the in-car nav isn't terrible.
Agreed. I use ABRP to plan the route and stops. I use the in-car navigation to plan my actual stops, navigate as I go, see how many chargers are functioning, and adjust on the fly. I use Plug Share to check reports on how the station worked and to report the success of charging sessions to help others.

I second using plugshare to see if the next stop has issues with charging or all in use. I am getting ready to try once again a road trip Balto to Ft Lauderdale hopefully the ewather will be less an impact on my range. I was so ready to sell the truck after my last trip, but love driving it so will see how it goes afetr this trip.

I agree for a trip like that, put the all season tires back on. My lariat ER is almost 9000 pounds so I think you would be fine. I switched to snow tires because it’s what I’ve always done and currently have my 2018 lariat rims with snow tires on my ER lariat right now.

However, were I planning a trip like this and I had not yet switched to snow tires and didn’t want to wear the snow tires out down? I would just put the original all seasons on and be done.
