Has anyone tried to use say like a portable 6k watt or so generator to charge truck say like in emergency situation yet ?
or be so loud you couldn't sleep! Some guys on youtube did that. They took a Lightning and a Hybrid up to Alaska on a multi-day thousand mile trip and the recharged the Lightning every night with the Hybrid. Worked for them, so it's not out of the question.
I think the questions is, can you travel with a generator in the bed of the Lightning and charge yourself up (albeit for many hours at a time, maybe while you sleep in the cab) and get enough range for next day?
Is there a portable generator that wouldn't take up the whole bed and need a forklift to move it that would do the job?
Curious minds want to know.
Powered our Tahoe house for 24 hours New years as all of Meyers was out. Had to bypass the 50 amp GFCI breaker as the truck has it's own ground fault circuit.Has anyone tried to use say like a portable 6k watt or so generator to charge truck say like in emergency situation yet ?
So you don't think the Wen Generator would work? I was about to purchase it but if it's not going to charge without tripping ill be wasting my money35 amps still isn't enough. The max you ever want to stress an electrical circuit is 80%, hence a 40 amp breaker for a 32 amps charger. This is especially important for an EV charger that will be drawing max amperage for extended periods. Maybe 35 amps would work but my guess is it would be very unreliable.
Gave you tried this one? Very curious if it would work. How about this one:

It has 35AMP at the NEMA 14-50 plug.

What would be really cool would be to find a way to connect the DC output of this generator the DC input of the truck by passing the double inverter, but that is WAY beyond me.
I think the specs say 50 amp if I'm not mistaken35 amps still isn't enough. The max you ever want to stress an electrical circuit is 80%, hence a 40 amp breaker for a 32 amps charger. What brand and model did you find ? ThanksThe photo of the panel shows a 35 amps main breaker.
I did a quick search and was able to find an RV ready generator that would work.
If you put ohm's law to work; 32 amps * 240 volts = 7680 watts. That is the minimum continuous running wattage generator that would work. Yes, it has to be running watts. EV chargers create A LOT of heat. Anything less would certainly cause a trip.
To be clear, I'm talking about the Mobile Charger with the 240 volt adapter. You can use the 120 volt adapter with any 15 amp outlet, it just charges very slowly.
