I received a call and follow up email today from the Ford Electric Vehicle Team. Apparently my truck is throwing an error code that they see, but I do not. They created a case and contacted the dealer for a service appointment.

"They want to proactively replace certain high-voltage battery module(s) that will help prevent performance degradation of the high-voltage battery. They will use the parts from my vehicle to further evaluate how they function in the field."

The service is scheduled to take one day (or so). The dealer will provide a rental vehicle at no charge.

This could be interesting...

Watching individual pouches fail most likely.

Sorry to hear this. I guess I'm glad to hear that Big Brother exists, I think. I hope he can tolerate a few launches if they look at mine. :whistle:
What is your production date? How many miles?

I had a mid March 22 production date, July delivery. I have about 5700 miles on it.

My dealer rep called me back and gave me a totally different story than the Electric Vehicle Team rep did. He is telling me that there is NOTHING wrong with my vehicle or the battery. Ford wants my battery pack for their "Harvest program". My understanding is that this Harvest program is where they get functioning vehicle parts returned from customer vehicles for real-world analysis. He is saying that it is optional for me to participate in this. The dealer rep also told me their service dept. has not performed a battery swap yet so it will take longer than a day. I am not sure I want to be a guinea pig on this unless a factory tech is going to be there also.🥺

This seems surprising that Ford wants to replace a perfectly fine battery pack when others seem to be waiting for batteries/battery modules for their trucks!

The dealer rep is asking more questions to Ford on this and will get back to me.

Do you have any idea what percentage of these packs are expected to fail. Between this, frunk and CSP, Hard to find anyone on these forums that hasn’t had something go wrong.
No. Difficult to predict. The best pouches can handle more heat. How good are those pouches? Only time will tell.

For comparison, the Chevy dealer never did admit to pack failures with the Spark, even after GM agreed to replace it. I give a little more weight to what Ford is telling you then anything the dealer tells you.

The bulletin that Ford sent the dealers says it’s a harvest operation. Definitely voluntary.

Not specifically stated, but I’m assuming it’s just for Ford R&D (it does specify packs must be sent back to Ford for analysis) and has an added bonus of teaching service depts how to swap a battery pack. I’m actually hoping my mannequin that I finally got to purchase ends up being one. It’s got 11k miles on it already. Would be cool to get a fresh new pack!

Ummm. I hope you are not taking the dealers word over Ford engineers... Let them have your battery - there is a reason they are interested in it and it's unlikely because it is working better than expected.

I’m with @TickTock and would definitely trust Ford over the dealer. The “harvest” Is probably because of the errors they are seeing and want to investigate. I’d go for it if Ford made that request for my battery

Honestly I am pretty darn proud of Ford for owning up to something early. It feels like they are serious about wanting to build long term relationships with their customers. Nice! As to the problem happening - we are early adopters. Stuff is going to happen. I still just am amazed every day how good a truck this is. Hell, it is a far better VEHICLE than the 4 BMWs, 5 volvo's, and 1 Infinity I've owned over the years. My only hope is they let the engineers (vs. marketing folks) have at it for a few years. They had the foresight/luck to have the lightest "tophat" of any full size pickup. Don't waste money there. Go make the batteries lighter and bigger, go make the thermal management system more elegant, more efficient and uber-reliable, & keep making the software exquisite. I would love for Ford to survive and thrive this immense paradigm shift. For my country, my kids, and the planet I do want Ford to do well.

Personally, I would definitely do it. Sounds like you got a lemon battery - sticking with it runs the risk of the truck bricking some time later when you are trying to go somewhere. Of course it is voluntary since it is your truck.
