Dealer won't complete EV Tax Credit Application

Recently purchased the 2025 Flash - was told by salesperson that dealer does not handle tax credit - that I would have to apply myself. Then when I reviewed the IRS documentation I found that the only way to get the tax credit is if the dealer completes an online point of sale application. Looks like I'm going to miss out on a $7,500 tax credit. Guess it's my own fault for not doing my homework. Really, really annoyed - makes for a very sour experience - one that I will not be forgetting too soon.

Anyone else have this issue? Anything I can do as a workaround?

Go back to the dealership and ask to speak with the sales manager. Provide them with the information from the IRS.

ChasingCoral is 100% correct. You didn’t neglect to do your homework - the dealership did. I went to the dealership in Murfreesboro TN and told them if they wanted the sale of a lightning that day (I knew what I wanted and got dropped in an Uber but they didn’t know that) they needed to handle the paperwork and it was done in ten minutes.

Really wish I had demanded the completed form like Ohm_base did - I just can't get my dealer to understand what they need to do - no matter how many documents I provide - even had a sample 15400 - it's a one page form! They are telling me that the bill of sale is all that is needed. That might have been good enough in the early years of the tax credit but not now.

I have to believe that this dealer (a ford giant?) is going to have a lot of unhappy customers come next tax season when they find out they are missing the required form to file with their taxes.

I had the same problem. After first trying to work with the dealer and getting ignored, I filed a complaint with the attorney general, BBB, local news station, did a Google review, and lit up their facebook page. They ignored it all and blocked me from their facebook page. I then drafted up a letter that I was ready to take to an attorney to send to them, but decided to go back in person one last time. I found the GM and he finally agreed to figure it out. Sounds like they didn't understand the login.gov account needed. He worked with his parent office and had it figured out in a few days and I could finally see my eligibility on the IRS page.

Good luck! I hope you get it figured out with them!

Thank you for sharing your experience - sounded really painful - glad you persisted - the tax credit makes a big difference in the cost of the truck.

Still no luck for me with the tax credit. The latest news is this - received a call from the sales manager - he told me that the $7,500 "rebate" (that's how it's listed on contract) that I received was in lieu of the tax credit - that Ford realized that the Lightning Flash I purchased was not eligible for the tax credit so they gave me the rebate. I was under the impression that the $7,500 amount taken off the MSRP was a dealer incentive - with the tax credit an amount to further reduce the price. I have no way to verify this - can anyone comment on this - sounds reasonable - or are they yanking my chain.
