Dealer called me to let me know the truck is in. Then of course started selling me on lease and financing offers.

I told him I just wanted to purchase in cash as I can get way better financing elsewhere. He then sent me an email saying there is a new Ford policy on cash purchases:

1. I have provide a notarized agreement not to export - fine

2. I have to give them an extra $5k that they will give me back after 6 months if I hang onto the vehicle.

I find the latter a bit hard to swallow given none of this was in the offer to purchase agreement. Any thoughts? Anyone else seen this?

that's certainly NOT anything from Ford - it's your truck, you pay for it, you drive away with it, period.
The stipulations may not be from Ford, but the dealer has final say on the terms of the sale. And, the buyer is bound by the deal they sign.

It sounds like the dealer is hoping to make the deal so bad that @Columbiaskier walks away so they can load it up with DAOs and a healthy ADM and sell it from the lot.

I paid all cash from mine, no special conditions were imposed

No export has been a stipulation for decades.

i’ve heard that Ford is asking dealers to get a no sell commitment for 12 months but my dealer didn’t ask or make this part of the purchase agreement.

i agree that your shouldn’t have to put up a bond to guarantee that you won’t resell right away. The exception would be for known flippers.

You are purchasing the vehicle from the dealer not Ford.

Ford is providing that language to dealers who can decide if they want to include it in sales contracts.

Just so everyone knows how this ended. I was able to get them to wave the 5k. I did have to get a notarized agreement not to sell for 6 months. Not a big deal but the dealer wasn’t super transparent about this. Originally they’d said I needed to sign a no export and sent me Ford’s form that is meant for the dealer. Then when it was time to buy they sent me a new form clearly created by the dealer (no Ford letterhead) promising no sale for 6 months.

The story is that Ford is putting pressure on the dealers to take precautions so vehicles aren’t flipped and threatening that the dealer could lose inventory privileges.

Anyways have my truck and it’s great.
