Tried out fast charging today on my lunch break.

Closest to my house is an EVgo station, which I will never use again. 33.5 KWH at a cost of $.60/kwh plus fees.... equals almost $20. Hannaford, a northeast grocery chain, seems to have a deal with EVgo as all EVgo stations are located at Hannaford stores. And.... they don't email you a receipt, they make you log into their app or website to see the charging details.

Drove a little further to get to the Electrify America at Walmart. Not only did it charge faster, but it was HALF the cost. Got 26 Kwh for $8.70. Email with all charging details and costs was sent immediately upon completion.

Not using EVgo ever again.... unless I'm in a serious bind.

FYI: Things are changing rapidly in the EV charging world. I thought the same thing about EVGo until I tried one of their new ultra-fast "Ultium Ready" stations. Those are a completely different EVGo experience than the older units.

are they any cheaper?
Probably not. However, I don't recall details on pricing structure and how it varies.

Electrify America has the most consistent pricing. There are public and Pass + prices per minute and per kWh. EA consistently uses the per kWh pricing in all states where it is allowed and uses the per minute pricing in the others. These four prices are consistent across the country so it is the most predictable.

ChargePoint units are installed and managed by ChargePoint but the owners of the location set the pricing. Chargers can be different at charging stations across the street from each other, just like gas stations.

EVGo has three pricing plans, Pay as You Go (most expensive), EVGo Member, and EVGo Plus (least expensive). Their prices vary by region and can be found at EV Charging Costs: Pricing and Plan for EV Charging

I agree, EVGO sucks!
Not only have their stations failed to communicate with my Lightning, their prices are outrageous.
If charge stations are going to gouge us at $.59/kwh, they will kill the EV market. Think about this, at 2 mile/Kwh it will cost $0.295 per mile at that rate. It would cost $77.29 to charge from 0-100%.

I was traveling in NC and need a qucik fill before making my destination. There was a EVGO at a BP gas station so my only option. They had a weekend surchage $5 just for connecting. A rip off for sure but glad they were there, not many options in some places. :)
