Dumb question but does anyone else experience a clunking noise when braking or accelerating after braking? I can only hear it with the windows down. I assumed it was the regeneration kicking in and out, but wanted to confirm. Thank you

Good morning! If you send over a DM with your VIN and Ford dealer info, I can assist with your noise concern.

Check the lug nuts on your tires.
Thank you for a legitimate response as compared to those above. I have already retorqued the lug nuts.

The sound is similar to that when an electric motor engages for like a lathe or mill. I have heard the sound in golf carts too. I just didn’t expect to hear it with the lightning and I basically was wondering if others with a lightning were experiencing the same. I have contacted my dealer to look into it further.

Try removing the small cover in the frunk above the section you can use as an ice cooler. If that makes a difference it might be just that. It doesn’t seem to fit snuggly and moves around a bit. Could also be something totally different but worth it to rule out.

Some people have noted that the floor panel in the frunk can slide around on acceleration/deceleration. You might try removing that panel to see if it is the source of the sound.

There is a similar thread over on the other Lightning forum, seems to be a mystery as to what's causing the noise.

This may be it! I got under the truck and inspected for something loose in the drivetrain. Couldn’t find anything or see any witness marks. I had my wife drive the truck around in a cul de sac while I ran along side. The sound coincides with the application and release of the brakes. It is more pronounced when the brakes are released and there is a rapid transition to acceleration.

I will look at the thread. Thank you.

Ok. Problem solved. Order Frost King Premium Rubber Self-Stick Weatherseal 5/16 in Wide x 1/4 in Thick x 17 Ft Long in the color Black from Amazon. $5.46. Remove the cover. Clean the back edge corner to corner (32 in) with rubbing alcohol. Cut a 32 in long 5/16 in wide strip of the Weatherseal (The weatherseal is split into 2 side by side 5/16th in lengths 8 1/2 Ft Long). Remove the tape and install the weatherstrip on the lower back edge. It is virtually invisible. Push the back end of the cover against the newly installed weather strip and lower in to place. A nice tight seal. No more slop... No more noise. Hope y'all find this to be helpful! Thanks, Walt

There's another solution: load up some stuff in the frunk. It holds that panel in place fine.

This cheaper one does fine too. I had some in the basement.
