I just put new wheels and tires on my Ford Lightning. The tires are the same size they’re offering on the platinum level. I have extended batteries and with the new wheels and tires I’m only getting about 230 miles per charge. Averaging about 1.8 kWh per mile. Anyone have suggestions on how to improve? Or do these larger wheels make that much difference?
A lot of testing and research goes into the tires and wheels on an EV. Everything from the tribulance they create, to the offset is considered and tested. Replacing this important moving part on the vehicle will typically have an effect on the range, depending on what wheel you go with.
If you cannot live with the looks of the stock wheels, that's just something that you've decided is worth paying for by having reduced range. In my case, the stock wheels on the spark EV I just could not live with. I swapped them out with something more attractive, and yes I took the range hit. Every other Eevee in my stable I have managed to keep the stock wheels, to maximize the vehicles range.
