Chargers with Disconnects not working (charger question)

720 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Voltz
Hoping Someone with a little bit better electricity/EVSE knowledge can chime in on what might be the problem here:

At the Dealership, I work at (honda) we have several chargers that all have quick connects on the charger output cord so the cords can be brought in at night. These chargers are from the Honda Clarity Program and they all appear to be around 30 to 32-amp chargers. The Cords detach as most of the cords were stolen by Homeless/Open scene drug users.

These Chargers have had no problem charging any of the EVs or PHEVs that we have seen. My 2022 Lightning Lariat ER does not like these chargers one bit......

Any Idea why?

To test the theory in the above post, you could plug the Bosch into the Pro Power Onboard in your Lightning and see if you still get a charging port error using known clean power. There's a "Will F-150 Lightning Charge Itself?" type posting somewhere.

If your dealer would allow it, you could get a NEMA L14-30P to NEMA 14-50R dogbone or adapter and try your Ford Mobile.

I'd rather say to find an EVSE that you can adjust to 24A to try on those circuits. They should not have 30/32A EVSEs if those are 30A circuits, max 24A. But, then you would have to get into the 30A Pro Power L14-30R in the truck bed being advertised rescuing Teslas with the Ford Mobile 30A...
