1608 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Impatient Ron
I have have had my truck for 2 weeks or so and never got the pro charger, I did find a place somewhere to request one but I have not got it. Has ford cut this out now as I been hearing lots stuff being cut out of these trucks now like scales etc which I don't think i got either no t100 percent on that one.

anyways my question is I would like to charge little faster than I can with the 30 amp charger i did get and wondered what others are using to charge faster at home, I have seen other chargers online but not sure which works best with this truck.

There are a number of EVSE (charger) discussions here, and opinions vary, but as someone who installs chargers, here is my opinion.

Unless you have to (like you needed the V2G feature) do not buy a an EVSE from Ford. They are expensive, and do not have a good track record for reliability.

Happily, there are a ton of good, and some really great EVSE's on the market. A 50 amp unit will give you a nice bump in speed over your 30 amp unit. As an example, Tesla's 50 amp unit is high quality and down right cheap. Chargepoint, Wall, Clipper Creek and Grizzly all make great high power units. If you like, we can look at your application and I can help you narrow down what might be the best for your needs.

well maybe I will get one but I cannot seem to get any information on getting a pro charger, I actually do not need the home backup power thing at all as we get a power outage once every 3-5 years and I have a 2000 watt yamaha generator that solves any immediate needs. I am charging reasonably happy with the 30 amp 240 charger but would like to charge faster when needed. Anyone in canada have any issues getting a charger with the er trucks? Anyways if it no longer is part of the deal i would like to buy one for 60 amp breaker so 48 amp charge rate.
For a "plug it in and it just works" EVSE that will last a really long time, it is hard to beat the Clipper Creek line. They are no-frills, tough as nails and they seem to never fail:

For all the bells and whistles, ChargePoint's Home Flex lets you have lots of control of the unit via WiFi. You can track your costs, power usage, and schedule charging at the EVSE (bypassing Ford's glitchy version). The case feels a bit less robust when compared to the Clipper Creek, but I don't see many broken ones, they seem reasonably durable. They are one of the more aesthetically pleasing EVSE's on the market, if that is important to you.

If you are going to get a TeslaTap anyway (everybody should have one), a Tesla Wall unit is by far your best bang for your buck. With features like power share for future EV expansion, and a host of smart stuff, it is simple to install and use at half the price of the competition.

There are a ton of options out there, many of them really good. These are three of my favorite, hope it helps.
