I just got my CSP installed a couple of days ago and it seems to be having an overheating issue at 80a. I’ve double-checked everything to ensure good connections and correct wire. I heard there were some others having similar issues, but was under the impression that there was an update pushed to fix the issue. I’ve got it set up on WI-FI, but no luck. Does anyone have any current info on this? I’ve throttled my charging rate back to 64a in the interim.

Do you know what software version your CSP is on?

I installed my CSP Friday night (9/30) and tested it for an hour of charging. The app said it over-heated, stopped and started charging a couple times around the 45 min mark. Knowing that this was a known occurrence I didn't worry about it too much, just waited for it to update software since there is no way to force it. It was on version 2.112.64 and just this morning I noticed it has updated to 2.112.70(flowed by a much of numbers that I am not sure that really matter). I am hopeful that this will solve the "over-heating" problem, but we will see......I have learned to not get my hopes up 😂

Where are you located and what is the temperature in your garage?

I was able to get my pro charging station to stop overheating by not having the excess cable sit on top of the charger. It seemed this was trapping the heat. I installed a garden hose holder above the charger to hold the excess cable off of the charger. Metal hose holder

I do have lots of other issues with it, like the insights aren't giving me the charging information, and although I'm set to 7 on the rotary dip switch and 80amp in the app, it seems I'm getting 16KW/h. What is everyone else getting for charging speeds? Could the latest firmware limit the charging amps?

I’m getting 12kw/h. About 25-30 mph of charging. Mine was overheating so I dialed the charger setting back to 64 amps and also adjusted it to 64 in the app. When it was overheating and resetting, I assumed that was the cause for my “one time setting” of 80% charge in Settings > Charge in the truck reverting back to 100%. And last night I had an uninterrupted successful charge with no resetting (per my log and my alerts…alerts show when the interrupt occurs). And the joke is on me…my 80% setting had no impact and I woke up with 100%.
Coming from a Tesla, my biggest disappointment with the Lightning is the home charger and user experience with the app, along with the unreliable charging (will it overheat? will it blow past my charge setting? when I have set it to 100% and it sits on 99% for hours…is it still trying to charge and creating long term problems with my battery?). I really miss my Tesla wall charger, the Tesla app, and my experience using it with extremely good reliability and useful information. The truck is great, the charging experience is abysmal.

Tesla Wall Charger for Lightning. (y)

I can't fault Ford too much for their long-standing EVSE woes, as they do not build them. But man... they have had a lousy run of luck with their cords (stretching back years). For those that had an EVSE shipped to them for "free", it is what it is. I think EVSEs going forward will be add-ons, and I would sure recommend to never actually buy one. There are a great many excellent EVSEs on the market, with the Teslas being one of them.

Agreed, and I wish I still had my Tesla wc…but I don’t think that’ll solve the charge setting issues because even with an uniterruppted charge using my FCSP, it still ignored my one-time setting of 80% (so ridiculous that’s a “one time”, but I digress..). I think that’s on the truck side of the equation.

Did you set your FCSP as a charger location?

@btreece thanks, somehow I missed that instruction. Likely won’t charge again until Thursday or Friday so we will see what happens. If it works, and it charges 80% every time I plug-in… I’ll be happy. Still hope the app experience improves and I can do it on the fly. Presetting based on where a charger is located makes no sense.
Not sure if it’ll change the impact on upping my charger back to 80 amps and making it more reliable.

@btreece Now that I’ve added the ChargeStationPro to my list of chargers on the Lightning, it consistently stops at my desired setting of 80%. I’ll only eat a tiny bit of crow because although I missed it and failed to do this required step, it’s a very ridiculous step 😁
I’d love to hear the justification for requiring the charging location to be added/saved to a list; plugging in should be enough.

I agree that it seems like an unnecessary step. No need to eat any crow, we are all new to the truck and still learning things with this truck and the associated software and apps.

Just this morning I was struggling to have the truck do a one-time charge to 100% for my trip this afternoon. It took me 3 tries and a whole lot of experimenting just to get that done.
