I’m looking to buy the base model lightening, and I want to put a shell on it that can hold easily a 9 foot paddleboard. By easy I mean so I can access it easily. Any thoughts on a good camper shell?

The bed is only 5&1/2 feet long, and a paddleboard is too wide for the sliding rear window opening (which you wouldn't get on a Pro model anyway), so if you're transporting a 9' board it'll either be hanging 3.5' out the back or you'll need a roof rack. Either way, any of the shells that fit a 5.5' F-150 bed should work.

Thanks. What about a shell that comes over the roof? I know there’s a name for it. I don’t need to sleep in there. Just need a storage solution that is also useful. Don’t want to always have it on the roof.

I don't know of any of the small fiberglass shell type of camper shells that go over the cab of the truck. For that you'd need a full-on RV-style in-bed camper that does indeed have a bed over the cab. You wouldn't have to sleep in it, but it would cost a lot more than just a "shell."

Are you looking for a way to keep the paddleboard secure inside the vehicle for storage when not transporting the board to the beach? There's just not space for that in the Lightning. Maybe an ICE F-150 with the 8-foot bed, loaded diagonally to fit. But the Lightning can't be configured with a long bed.

I had the same thing in mine - I added the AT tires. Looks like @partyofone also has AT tires. I haven't seen many others post this. I wonder if it is because of the slight differences after adding AT tires?
