Wondering if anyone has a good resource for comparing Off-Road / All-Terrain tires specifically for EV trucks. Leaving out aesthetics for this discussion, I'd like to know if there has been any significant off-road testing across the major brands for EV trucks. I've been trying to piece together limited information from the various online tire sites and there seems to be a lack of meaningful data. There are some metrics that are obvious for off-road / AT tires like performance in certain conditions (snow, wet, mud, severe weather, etc), however there are other criteria that should likely be considered when buying tires specifically for EV trucks:
  • Tire weight (at least close to OEM tires - many are as much as 50% heavier)
  • Load capacity (especially sidewall strength to support the extra vehicle weight over the life of the tire)
  • Noise level (a quieter cabin on roadways is a nice perk in owning an EV truck)
  • Range impact (with amore aggressive tread pattern, how much reduction in range should be expected?)
What additional criteria should we consider for Off-road / All-Terrain EV truck tires?

These videos are great info about EV tires in general, however they are all car/small SUV focused.
Is there similar information specifically for off-road EV truck tires?

Take what I'm saying with as much salt as you need. Most of this is vague memory and piecing together stuff I've seen in the last year. EE does just go over car tires (the only one I watched there) but what he's saying in general would apply to a truck. However I found, from what I can remember, that truck A/T weights are already rated for something like a Lightning (in regard to weight and load capacity). Trucks have always been heavy, cars haven't. I pretty certain that's one of the main reasons their tire speed rating is low. Rivian loses in some 0-60 bouts because of that limit, not the motor.

Rivian and Ford have A/T tires available when you order, so they exist. I can't remember exactly (cause there are so many Rivian off-road videos) but I'm sure the noise did go up but I can't recall them making a big deal about it. Maybe the manufacturer doesn't care to do all of the things EE talks about with noise reduction because they are off-road tires and why engineer them to be quiet in the first place? It'd be like engineering a sport car to have highly efficient mpg.

The range is impacted, how much I can't exactly say. Some on here and in other videos it seems like a general 10-20% range impact. Some say that they don't even notice. Town & Country lifted and put A/Ts on a Lightning and did a range test after doing a range test before hand. 2.4 mi/kWh before and 2.0 mi/kWh after. I can't remember if he comments on the sound but you can hear the tires in the video

Don't know if any of that was worthwhile. But I just don't thing, and fine with being completely wrong, most will care about range and noise or weight because of the use case. I also think in addition to the tire, the type of wheel that'd fit A/Ts really doesn't exist at all. Outside of a specific car manufacturer and in regard to being lightweight and aerodynamic. Though maybe in 5 years that'll change as the market demand (should) increase.

I would just use LT rated tires. They can handle the weight and are available everywhere. The only thing a dedicated "EV" tire can bring is economy and a rougher ride and probably not even as much load carrying capability.
