Just curious how it does and the experience difference with ICE models. I won’t get many chances in GA, tho “Ryan Hall y’all” predictions may give me that chance this year…. Maybe

Lots of snow here over the last month or so. I have stock "all season" tires.

Overall, I'd say lightning does much better than my F-350 Powerstroke (Michelin Defender M/s2 tires), weight distribution is noticably better and all time all wheel drive obviously helps. I haven't really had issues getting up and going out of icy approaches, although if you aren't careful the amount of torque available with the lightning can break free pretty easily. I have been happy that the traction control hasn't been overly restrictive to date, and has seemed to work effectively.

I don't think it does quite as well as my escape hybrid (stock tires), I think the higher profile and more mass hurts it a bit on ice. I do feel just as confident driving the Lightning as the escape.

I do really like the regenerative braking/1 pedal driving for ice, as i feel it gives me a bit more control when slowing down than tapping the brakes would.

For deep snow, the order is reversed, the 350 is the go to with much more clearance, then the lightning, then the escape.

Good analysis, thanks! Where do you live / drive in snow? Just wondering what sort of snow you usually see.

North of Toronto good amount of snow and we’ve had ice too. Handling very well. Still using the stock tires as they’re fresh, with no issues. (lower centre of gravity compared to ICE version, and significant weight is probably keeping the truck planted.). Handling well and comparably to my Xdrive with snows, which is exceptional, and better than our Highlander with snow tires (it’s very good). Will probably buy snow tires for the lightning next year if I decide to keep it. (on the fence based on my own unrealistic expectations for winter range., which IMO only is sucky)

I have not had to drive through deep snow, but the clearance seems to be adequate for any snow I would think of driving through. I live on a .4 mile private road that is covered in packed ice and snow all winter. We also have two fairly steep grades on the road. My neighbor let me know that for traction he had to add 400 #s of sand to the box of his truck. I just smiled and said I have a 2000 # battery for traction. I really don't know the weight of the battery but I have had zero problems with traction. I also used to add 400#s of sand in the box off my old ICE Chevy truck just to get up the bigger hill. This is with the original tires too.

I tried doing donuts earlier this week, but my Lariat just didn’t slide enough, LOL. Loving it driving to work at night in Wisconsin winter w slick roads, sleet, and snow. This truck is a winter beast - except range! Sure wish Ford had used a heat pump, not just battery cooling!

Did you try turning off traction control? That might not be enough as you probably can't turn off all the traction control.

BTW, several Mustang Mach E owners found that doing donuts started turning the dash into a Christmas tree with alerts and warnings, including:

  • Hill start assist not available
  • 1 Pedal Drive Fault - Press brake pedal to reduce speed
  • Service AdvanceTrac
  • Check headlamp system See manual
  • Auto hold fault
  • Blind spot fault
  • Cross traffic system fault
  • Reverse brake assist not available see manual

Have fun but be forewarned!

I took my Lariat out in a storm last week with plenty of snow on the ground and the stock tires were sliding all over the place, couldnt grip braking downhill, it was really bad. I'm getting winter tires asap
