Just curious if anyone know if the sync platform to be shipped with Ford Lightning will be upgradable with the android auto they talking about here in 2023?

Welcome to the forum @Scottmatt! It would be in the best interest for Ford and Google if the Lightning was one of, if not the first Ford to use this platform. I still haven't seen Ford confirm anything yet so far. At the very least it should be something that could be updated.

How are you looking to spec your Lightning?

Welcome @Scottmatt

We'll likely be stuck with a more basic experience when using Android devices for now. Are there any certain features and functions you look forward to when Android Auto finally arrives?

What Tesla has done is make a product feel new and refreshed over time through continuous improvements to it's software AND performance. They really needs to showcase this to get the same amount of brand loyalty and attention to customer experience that Tesla has done. These days with everyone expecting constant product improvements with our phones are gaining the same level of experience and expectations with our vehicle.

I can only hope such a huge commitment with the Lightning and current 2021 large display setups in F150, they can have the hardware in place to handle several years of that roadmap of software requirements to get the most out of it. Hopefully they won't be stuck in with features/experience that only work with a couple model years.

It can only help improve customer satisfaction.

Do we know the OS that Sync 4 is running on? I'm very disappointed to see a commitment to an Android OS in the future. More security holes than Swiss cheese and I'm sure I want my data no where closer to Google than it has to be.

VW forgot all about this model to promote brand loyalty and excitement in their new energy vehicles. Everything about their software and update rollouts has been a rocky journey of delays and broken promises. All I've seen them do is publicly brag to financial analysts how much money they are going to make selling software to their OTA updateable vehicles. I hope Ford models Tesla's constant updates, not VW's.

Sync4 and Sync4A run on QNX from BlackBerry - a highly stable and reliable OS.
I agree, I am happy the Lightning does not have the Google crap in it - honestly I'd prefer they keep QNX, Android is a big Swiss cheese.

As a reminder, they also run Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to interface with most phones.

Note that Android Auto and Android Automotive are two different things.

Definitely understand the two "Apps" for Apple and Android, but seeing them move in a couple of years to an Android OS is a huge step in the wrong direction in my humble opinion.

cut from the same kernel that's for sure...and pose the same risk....here, below is the latest Auto bulletin from December 2021 - how will auto makers ensure they are pushing security updates asap? honestly what hurts me the most is the fact that we don't even know what kind is being collected since Google has refused to share that info - unless one of you guys have a link to something like that?? I could never find it...

The most severe of these issues is a high security vulnerability in the Platform Apps component that could enable a local malicious application to bypass user interaction requirements to gain access to additional permissions. The severity assessment is based on the effect that exploiting the vulnerability would possibly have on an affected device, assuming the platform and service mitigations are turned off for development purposes or if successfully bypassed.
