It's quite the colour change for Ford to make after 1 year. Any idea why they're getting rid of Iced Blue Silver, Smoked Quartz Metallic and Atlas Blue?

first I have seen of the removal of the onboard scale and smart hitch...assume this means that the range calculator will not work correctly for towing, anyone know if this is something that can be added later or do we have to decide to order without the option or wait more...seat issue seems minor in comparison but if the onboard scales impact ability to predict range for towing that might be a bigger deal

highly doubt you can add this type of components after your build is complete - it involves hardware and software. Too bad the one liner doesn't describe if both hardware and software are not included.

This is great info and thank you for sharing. Looks like waiting game for most of us continues into early September!
Yep, that is how I read it. I was all pumped for an invite tomorrow; now I know it is at least another month. I probably need it after the price hike sting and loss of the tax credit.

Does anyone know for certain if charge station pro is still included with each ER truck? They have gone tesla with the mobile charger and are charging $500.

A consideration, the Tesla mobile EVSE is less than half the price and has better tech. It seems a thoughtful person would forgo the $500 Ford EVSE for the $200 Tesla model.

the Lightning order bank does not open August 11th, unless you ALREADY have a reservation, and unless you are lucky enough to receive an INVITE to order, and from a 2022 Order Invite that was DEFERRED. People make these headlines as though anyone who wants to jump in and order a Lightning can do so on August 11th - but that's fake news and leading others toward confusion.
NO ONE who didn't already have a reservation from LAST YEAR, and likely mostly only those who clicked on 5/20/21, will likely receive an invitation for 2023.
With over 200,000 reservation from 2021, and only less than 20,000 trucks built as 2022 models, it is sounding more like only about 40-60,000 trucks will be built in the whole of 2023's model year. That's TRIPLE this year's numbers but still leaves more than 120,000 reservations standing in line.
I do believe Ford can ramp up production, and they are adding on to their existing REV Facility, but that's a BIG leap in production numbers, and that's only IF all the commodity build products are actually on the same track and arrive in a timely matter, not to mention the 'chip' issues.

the title should read:
"A FEW Lightning RESERVATION Holders MAY Get A Chance To Order A 2023 LIGHTNING Later This Year!"

the Lightning order bank does not open August 11th, unless you ALREADY have a reservation, and unless you are lucky enough to receive an INVITE to order, and from a 2022 Order Invite that was DEFERRED.

Very true. Unless production increases by 600%-1000%, we should be given a more realistic timeline of the possibility of purchasing a Lightning in early 2024.

Regarding the onboard scales and smart hitch removal, it seems like there's two ways to read this... are they only preventing you from ordering onboard scales and smart hitch a la carte (for example on an XLT) or are they saying that on any trim any package they will not include onboard scales and smart hitch (for example a Platinum will not come with onboard scales and smart hitch)?

My read is that scales and smart hitch are not available on any trim line. If you go to ford.com and spec out a higher trim line they are removed and the price is reduced. Looks like those who haven't ordered yet are out of luck for the moment. Might be the only silver lining in having the dealers play favorites is that waiting longer might bring back this feature...

My Platinum order was updated showing the removal of "Multicontour seats with Active Motion® Removal " along with the Scale and heated steering wheel. Makes me want to cancel my order if I am willing to pay the hefty price tag for the Platinum only to be short handed some of the luxury features I am paying for... I contacted my dealership and they said they are waiting for Ford to make an official announcement and agreed with me that the -300 for the seat removal and the -650 for the scale removal is totally laughable seeing how much those would cost me to add on later in time.

Why are people still queuing up if the information of several posters on this forum are accurate in their statements that Lightning are piling up on dealer lots nationwide and prices are plummeting?
  1. Not everybody reads these forums. In fact, most people do not.
  2. The number of un-informed consumers keeps dealers such as the ones asking $10k ADM in business. The fact that Mock Ford In Grants Pass is still in business after all the years they have fleeced the town is testament to how much of the public they serve are utterly clueless.
  3. Even members of this forum, when presented with what many would consider sage counsel, balk and go in search of evidence to support unfortunate preconceived notions.
I owned a car dealership for decades. I would recount some of the ways that we made money and stayed in business, except that frankly, it makes me a little sick to think about that these days. It is pretty sad how many of the people can be fooled how much of the time.

A couple of years back, GM had a battery issue with their Bolt. This issue caused problems, but the biggest problem for GM was when the press got ahold of it. A frenzy ensued, and Bolt resale values dropped through the floor. I grabbed one for peanuts (if I was younger & still in the biz I would have grabbed 10), because I know that GM has to make this right. I suspected this would mean new packs for all the affected cars. A year and change later, my Bold had a shiny new LG pack in it and had tripled in value.

While astute observers should be able to key in on a number of reasons my Bolt purchase was really pretty safe, it would pay more dividends to use these skills to look at what is happening, and about to happen with the Lightning.
  • I threw a huge red flag on the Lightning's pack design before any of the current failures ever happened. Those paying attention will remember I predicted this. It is a flawed design.
  • What has not happened yet (it's coming) is the press getting ahold of this, sensationalizing it, and making it into the latest packgate.
  • Anybody that thinks that Ford is immune to the type of PR disaster the Bolt suffered is not paying enough attention.
I certainly hope Ford does not take as big a hit on the pack problem as GM has (look at the news that broke this week with them), but it could.

For those interested in an old observer's opinion, do not sell your truck for cheap if/when this happens. Ford has to make this right, and unless I am completely missing something, that will eventually be a new, redesigned battery pack. If they really want to catch up to the competition fast, it could even be a 4680 pack.

But even if none of you make the knee-jerk reaction to sell when/if this happens, a great many people will. This will result in a great many great deals for those looking for one of these trucks.

But... Most people in the market for a Lightning will never see this post, will never do the kind of research it takes to model a market, so the "queuing up" will continue.

Then again, I could be completely wrong about everything. Fun part for me, we are likely to find out sooner rather than later...

it’s an interesting thesis. I doubt that the price behaviour of the Lightning will be much different than many other over-hyped vehicles (or other products) as prices revert to norms - supply may actually not only catch-up with demand but exceed ii eventually (not just Lightnings)

Interest rates and other economic factors are destroying demand (if you believe demand was ever really driving prices rather than temporary supply constraints which now appear to be finally abating) … You know something about the battery design that most of the rest of us do not. Either way, I will gladly accept a new one a few years from now (I hope you’re right about that possibility should it come to pass!)
