I am looking for the best point to pick up 12v power for a CB or Short Wave radio below 20a fuse.
The radio can be placed under the drivers seat easily and I have a remote control head to be placed in the storage spot under the dash.
Any idea where to plug the 12v power wires into the truck without messing up the internal power monitoring system.
I could alway just plug it into the 12v plug outlet on the back of the console, but looking for something more clean.

well, I looked for options myself, for an underseat SubWoofer, but ultimately decided that since I would rarely have anyone in the back seats, using a fused 12v male plug in the console's rear 12v outlet would be just fine - and, it is. It works, I can unplug it if needed, but it really doesn't get in the way, even if folks are sitting there.

I also wondered if this outlet would be 'constantly' powered, or only with ignition. The reality is that it is somewhat both. When you turn the truck 'ON', or even 'accessory' mode, it is powered. It is also powered for some time AFTER the truck is turned off. A 'delay', of sorts. It does eventually go off, though you might think so at first. With the huge battery pack providing 'flow thru' of 12v power, of sorts, it's really not a big deal anyway - the truck's 12v battery will be constantly 'trickled' charged, regardless.

If they made a '90 degree' 12v male plug, that would be even better.
I imagine, too, if you are really adventurous, you could find a way to get to the back of the 12v outlet and wire it from there, instead, inside the console.

Go to page 432 of the manual and find the fuse box that is located in the passenger footwell compartment. Very easy to get to and has some perfect extra fuses to use, you won't mess with anything else on the truck.

Perfect for add on equipment:
Fuse 27 - 30 amp
Fuse 37 - 20 amp
I used these two to add my dash cam. One of them is switched (off with ignition off) and one of them is live all the time - apologies for not remembering which is which).

Also Fuse 30 and 35 are listed as spare and only 5 amp, that might be better if you want less power. I'm guessing one of those is switched and one of them is live all the time.

Uuuggghhh. Just saw your fuse box reply nice solution. I ended up unsnapping the back of the rear console and gained access to the back of the 12v plug. I tied my HAM radio 12v power feed line into that wire first testing power and polarization. I then made sure that both neg and pos lines had a 15A fuse in them, 5 amps below the rated wire that has a 20 amp feed. So my radio is now Velcro mounted under the drivers seat, remote display in the storage well in the front section of the console, not one hole needed, no screws and all wires running inside the trim of the console which does snap off. I do like how ford put fabric tape in there plastic snaps for the trim, keeps them snug, quiet and firm. I may change the power feed direct to the fuse box as you pointed out for the radios direct feed. Thanks for the feed back everyone.

I ended up using a glass mount antenna. I was going to use the Bullet Diesel Third brake light mount but couldn’t bring myself to drill reinforcement holes in the new truck so I sent it back. This is what I bought and it tuned in nicely with great reception and transmission.

Thanks, will check it out!

I had a glass mount on my ELR, with pretty mediocre results. But then, that is a pretty difficult car to put an antenna on LOL.

Nice N4SYK - Here is W2RBM, the radio is a YAESU FTM-400XDR with the separate control head, radio is under the seat.
Works great and no I don't have a pocket protector.

I have a similar setup that I took out of my Cadillac ELR, that looks great! Looking forward to getting a lightning to set it up in. 😎

This conversation made me think of Bo and Luke Duke. Don't think they would have driven a lightning, as I just don't think it would jump like their Dodge Charger....
Catherine Bach. The creator of the "Daisy Dukes"........
